UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY WATERS, OF BISBEE, ARIZONA TERRITORY.
SHOEMAKERS TELESCOPIC REPAIR OUTFIT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 643,213, dated February 13, 1900.
Application tiled Tune 9, 1899. Serial No. 719,872. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY WATERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bisbee, in the county of Cochise and Territory of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoemakers Telescopic Repair Outfits; and I do declare the following to be` a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a telescopic repair outfit or kit for shoemakers; and the object is to provide a simple, convenient, and portable device of this character.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, whichwill be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved tele. scopic repair-jack as it appears in use for pegged or nailedwork. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing another position of the jack.
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the position for trimming the sole of a shoe. Fig. 4 is a Fig. 5 is a horizontal section on the broken lineA 5 5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a transverse section of the last on the line 7 7 of Fig. 3.
In the drawings, 1 denotes the base, and 2 the tubular standard, theupper end of which is provided with a series of longitudinal dovetailed tapering ribs 3 3, which engage corresponding slots or recesses 4 4 in the encompassing sleeve 5, which has a slid-ing connection therewith and in which is journaled the stud-shaft 6, to the upper end of which the U-shaped yoke 7 is removably secured by means of the nut 8.
9 denotes an intermediate section connect-i ed to the lower end of the shaft by the knucklejoint 10, and the lower end of said section 9 is similarly connected by the knuckle-joint 10 to the rod 12, the lower end of which tern minates in a disk ange 13, and 14 14 denote transverse orifices formed in the tubular standard to receive the removable pins 15, which extend across the path of the disk ange 13 to retain the yoke in the positions shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3.
16 denotes a stud iXed in the upper end of the yoke, and it is formed with lateral lugs 17 l7,which engage the shoulder 18 of the last 19 to retain the latter in place. When it is desired to remove the last, it is turned Vhorizontally until the lugs 17 are alined with the vertical recesses 2O in the last and then raising it, thus permitting the last to be detached from the yoke.
26 denotes the toe-rest, pivoted at its lower end to the upper end of the shorter member of the yoke 7.
28 denotes the hand -lever or pawl fulcrumed in the toe-rest, and 27 denotes a spring which serves to hold said pawl in engagement with the yoke 7.
It will of course be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described theinvention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
In a telescopic shoe-repairing jack, the combination with the tubular standard 2 formed with the ribs 3 3 and transverse orifices 14, of the pins 15, the stud-shaft 6, the sleeve 5 formed with the longitudinal recesses 4, the rod-section 9 `pivoted to said shaft, and the rod 12 pivoted to said section 9 and formed with the flange 13, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY WATERS.
