FIR'EP-ROQF FLAOJOR.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent No. 641,323, dated January 16, 1900.
i Application filed May 5,1898. Serial No. 67?,746. -(No model.)
Be it known that I, zen of the United States,'residingat-NewgYork city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and'useful Improvement in Fireproof Floors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates toa fireprooffloor construction. g
' I will describe a construction embodying my invention and features in the claims. 3
Inthe drawings Figure 1 is'a transverse sectional view'of aportion of a floor construction. Fig. 2 is a'de'tai-l plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is'a sectional'viewona slightly-larger scale than Figs. 1 and 2, which is-takcu on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. A. is a detail sectional View similar to Fig. 3, but showing modified form in'crosssection of supporting-liars. Figs.
5 andfi are detail views of spacing-strips for thesupporting-bars.
A represents two.of the ordinary I-beamsj I u'sedfor supporting floors inbuildings 'lower flanges of the I-beams.
Q is bent to B represents arched or curved cross-bars, which are supported by their ends on the v The cross-bars are preferably made from sheet metal and maybe bent Fig. 3, or the sides of the barm'ay be pressed together, as shown in Fig. 4, which would make substantially a solid bar; The supporting-bars are held in position on the flanges relatively to each other by means of spacingstrips 0. The spacing-strips may be formed from a strip of metal in which are provided recesses c, as shown in Fig. 5; or the spacingstrips may be made overa metal'band which form the recesses or pockets 0, as shown in Fig. 6. a
D represents bricks or other similar blocks, preferably'a single layer of which is used-"to form a base for the. filling ordinarilynsed in floor constructions.
and is located, preferably,
then point out the novel to form a -U shape, as shown in.
tion on the 'cross bars, substantiallyas de- Each of the bricks or blocks is provided witha recess or cut-out portion 01, which extends transversely thereof at its'middle por-. tion. The recpss is of such a width as to snugly fit the siipp'orting-bars. Bythis arrangement, as will be seen .from Fig. 2, I am enabled to obtain a flooring co 1, posed, essen- .tially, of' a permanent meta ic support and a layer of bricks orbloeks, which when they are placed inlposition upon the supports will overlap, thereby forminga'lock fol-each other. he spaces. between the top of the I-beams and'the bricks or blocks may be filled in in any desired manner and-with any desired material, and the underside-of the arch maybe, finished according as to whether an arched or flat-ceiling is desired.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a floor-construction the combination of the I-beamssuitablysupporte'd, cross-bars intermediatejsa'id theirends on'the suitable. spacing-strips for said} cross'ibars,
Ibeams and supported by flanges of said II-beams, and blocks supported bysaid cross-bars, said. blocks being arranged to overlap each other, substantially as described. n 2. In a floor construction thev combination of the I-beamssuitably supported, cross-bars intermediate'said I -beams and supported by their ends onthe flanges of said I-be'ams, bricks or blocks supported by said'cross-bars, each of said blocks being provided with a re cess into which the cross-bars project and said blocks being overlapped-when in posiscribed. In testimony whereof I haifie} signed my a name to this specification in the presenceof two subscribing witnessesi JQHNj-W. RAPP. Witnesses: I smear.- B. Hmzemwna,
GEO. E. Gauss.
