TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CON CERN:
Be it known that I, PETER H. JACKSON, of the city and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful improvement in Disengaging-Apparatns for Boats; and I do hereby declare the. following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, wherein- Figure 1 is a plan of a boat fitted with'my improvement; and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of' the said boat and mechanism,
Similar marks of reference denote the same parts.
Various devices have heretofore been made for disconnecting the boats at both ends simultaneously from the chains or ropes leading to the davits. liable.
The nature of my said invention consists in a pairof horizontal bolts, running below the thwarts and taking eyes upon the davit-falls 'that are placed within mortises into which said bolts pass, and when the boat is tc be disconnected itis to be e'ected by withdrawing these bolts by a lever and screw acting;y equally on both bolts.
so that the Vdisconnection shall be simultaneous.
In the drawing, represents the boat, b b the thwarts; c c are the mortises for receiving the links orirings d CZ of the davit-fall, or of the ropes or chains passing to the davits.
metallic plates or sockets, attached to the boat in any desired manner.
These mortises c c are made in suitable The bolts ce pass through the. sides of' g is a cylinder, having a feather, t', around its periphery, near the centre, taking Aa fork, 171 that is attached to the bottom of the boat. In this cylinder g screw-threads are cut, taking right and left-handed screws formed at thc end of the bolts e e, and c is a lever by which the cylinderg is rotated to withdraw or project the bolts e e. This is efected with uniformity at the two ends of the boat, as the feather z' prevents any end movement of the said cylinder g, and the right and left-handed screws are ofthe same pitch. At the ends of the bolts screws l Z may be inserted on the opposite sides of the mortises c c, so as to adjust with accuracy the point to which the bolts may be moved endwise and insure uniformity of disconnection. i
vWhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cylinder g, feathel' 2', lever k, and fork L, in combination with the bolts e e, having right and left-handed threads, said bolts taking eyes or rings on the'ropes or chains passingl to the davits, as set forth-and for the purposes specified.
