Be it known that I, CAID H. PECK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elmira, in the county of Chemung and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Motors, of which the following is a specification. Y
My invention relates to improvements in motors which are driven by compressed air, steam, or other fluids and wherein the cylinders revolve about a stationary shaft set eccentrically to the main shaft of the motor; and my object is to simplify the construction and increase the efficiency of this type of motor and to apply said improvements more particularly to compressedair` motors of small compass.
I attain the object o'f my improvements by ineans of the mechanisms illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l represents a side elevation of the motor in central section; Fig. 2, a front elevation sectioned on the line oc x in Fig. l; Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6, details showing dilferent parts of the motor.

A represents a cylindrical casing provided with a head or cover B. At the center of the head B and inside the casing is fastened a disk O by means of the bolt D. Integrally attached to the disk C is a shaft E, positioned eccentrically to the bolt D. At the opposite end from disk O is a second disk F, fastened to the shaft E by means of a hollow screw G, as shown more clearly in Fig. 4.
H is a triangular plate attached to the main or drive shaft I, which shaft is concentric with the bolt D. Opposite the plate H is a similar plate K, these two plates revolving upon the stationary disks C and F upon ball bearings, J representing the ball-race in the plate H and L an adjustable ball-race in the platev K, the disks O and F being so shaped as to form the cones for the bearings.
M, N, and O are three cylinders cast integrally with a hub which slips over the conical bushing S on the shaft E, this bushing being of brass or other antifriction metal and revolving with the cylinders.
P represents the pistons in the cylinders, and Q connecting-rods between the pistons and the bolts R, which fasten together the triangular plates H and K at the three angles. On one side of the cylinder-casting are three annular guideways T, which engage rollers U, attached to pins projecting inwardly from the plate K.
The compressed air or other driving fluid is admitted to the motor through an inlet a in the casing B, this inlet a being made to register with a passage c, drilled through the disk O and shaft E, as shown in Figs. 2 .and 4. d is an admission-port leading from passage c and with which the ports m, n, and o of the p cylinders are brought into register as the cylinders revolve about the shaft.
In operation the compressed air or other driving fluid passes in through inlet a and passage c to the port d, whence it is delivered to the admission-ports m, n, and o of the cylinders. In the position of the parts as shown in Fig. 1 admission is fully open to the cylinder M, exhaust is just about to'open for the cylinder N, and the exhaust is beginning4 to close for the cylinder O. Pressurel of the compressed air or other driving fluid upon the piston B reacts upon the cylinder-head to force the cylinders in a circular path around the shaft E. -It will be noticed that the axes of the severalcylinders do not intersect the axis of the shaft E, but are tangent to a circle inscribed with the axis of the shaft as a center, the radius of such circle being, in the present instance, equal to the radius of the shaft. By reason of this manner of setting the cylinders relative to the shaft E the pressure upon the cylinders is tangent to said shaft and increases the rotary effect upon the cylinders; also, the angularity of the connecting-rods on the working side of the motor is much decreased. As the cylinders revolve IOO they carry with them the plates H and K by reason of the engagement of the annular guideways T withthe roller-pins on the plate K, the revolutions of the plates H and K causing the main shaft I to revolve, and thereby imparting motion to a driving-pulley, gear, chuck, or other device, as may be required. Wear between the cylinder-hub and the shaft E may be taken up by driving the conical bushing S to the left in Fig. 2, and the ballbearings may be adjusted by screwing in or out the ball-race II in the plate K. The inclosing case A B may be dispensed with' and the motor mounted in an open frame or upon pedestals or brackets.
I am aware that motors constructed on the principle herein illustrated are old, and I do not' therefore claim such a motor broadly as myinvention.
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a motor, the combination of a pair of stationary disks, a shaft set eccentrically between said disks, two side plates journaled upon said disks, a main shaft driven by one of said plates, a plurality of cylinders revoluble upon the eccentric shaft, the axes of said cylinders being tangent to a circle inscribed with the axis of said shaft as a center,
pistons in the cylinders, connecting-rods coupling the pistons to the side plates, connecting devices between the cylinders and one of said plates whereby the plates are caused to rot-ate with the cylinders, and admission and exhaust passages and ports whereby a iiuid under pressure is admitted to and ex-v hausted from the cylinders.
2. In a motor, the combination of a pair of stationary disks, a shaft set eccentrically between said disks, a hollow screw by which one of said disks is removably attached to said shaft, two side plates journaled upon said disks, a main shaft driven by one of said plates, a plurality of cylinders revoluble upon the eccentric shaft, pistons in the cylinders, connecting-rods coupling the pistons tothe side plates, connecting devices between the cylinders and one of said plates whereby the plates are caused to rotate with the cylinders, an admission-port in the eccentric shaft opena ing from an inlet-passage through said shaft, an exhaust-port in said shaft opening to the passage through said hollow screw, apertures in the side plate adjacent to said screw, and ports to the cylinders to register with said admission and exhaust ports as the cylinders revolve about the shaft.
