(NomodeL) ing apparatus for cigar-making machines in which the tobacco is supplied, preferably in scrap form, to a hopper, from which it supplies a measuring device which sizes the bunches.

The object of my invention is to provide means whereby the tobacco may be pushed into the measuring device, so as to fill the opening formed in the latter.

My invention consists, first, in the provision of a plunger or rammer which is mounted on the inside of the hopper and operated in such a manner as to cause its head to reciprocate I, the outer plunger being shown. Fig. III

, I will now describe my improvement,which is located within and to one side of the hopper.

11 is an extension to the oscillating shaft. Mounted on and fixed to this extension so as oscillate therewith is a sleeve 14, having a lateral arm 15. Secured to the inside of the hopper is a hollow post or standard 16, having an arm 16 and a vertical slot 16". Adapted to reciprocate within this hollow post or standard is the rod 17 of an inner plunger or rammer, formed with a recessed lower end 17, to which is adjustably secured by suitable set-screws 18 and washers 19 a skeleton frame 20, providing a plunger-head which is operated over the opening of the measuring device. For reciprocating the inner plunger or rammer I provide the means now described.

21 is a link working in front of the vertical slot on the inner face of the post or standard and connected to the plunger or rammer rod by a screw-pin 22.

23 is a bell-crank lever, pivoted by a screwpin 24 at its elbow to the post-arm. The upper arm of this bell-crank lever is pivoted by a screw-pin 25 to the upper end of the link, while its lower arm has pivoted thereto by a screw-pin 26 a connecting-arm 27, which in turn is pivoted by a screw-pin 2.8 to the head 29 of a rod 29, sliding freely in the lateral arm of the vertical sleeve of the oscillating shaft. 30, screw-threaded to the upper end of the extension of the oscillating shaft. By these means when the shaft is oscillated the inner plunger or rammer is caused to reciprocate over the opening in the measuring device and push the tobacco thereinto, while the shakerplate vibrates on opposite sides of the plunger-head or rammer-head.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A cigar-bunching-machine filler-feeding device comprising a hopper, an oscillating shaft having an extension provided with a The sleeve is secured by a cap-piece lateral arm, a measuring device having an opening, a reciprocating plunger or rammer, located inside of the hopper, for pushing the tobacco into the opening of the measuring device; and means whereby the plunger or rammer is operated from the lateral arm substantially as described.

2. Acigar-bunching-machine filler-feeding device comprising a hopper, an oscillating shaft having an extension provided with a lateral arm, a shaker-plate fixed to the oscillating shaft, Within the hopper, a measuring device having an opening, a plunger or rammer located inside the hopper, and means operated by the lateral arm for causing the plunger or rammer to reciprocate over the measuring device for pushing the tobacco into the opening of the latter; substantially as described.

3. A cigar-bunching-maohine filler-feedi ng device comprising a hopper having a discharge-opening, an oscillating shaft having an extension provided with a lateral arm, a hollow post or standard having an arm and a vertical slot and secured to the hopper, the plunger or rammer having a rod adapted to slide in the hollow post or standard, and'a head adapted to be reciprocated over the discharge-opening, the slide or link connected with the plunger or rammer rod through the slot, the pin having a head and loosely mounted in the lateral arm, the connecting-arm pivoted to the pin-head, and the bell-crank lever pivoted to the post-arm and pivotally connecting the link with the connecting-arm; substantially as described.
