ANTIRATTLEH FOB Wl-NDOW SASHES.
(Application led Feb. 24, 1899.)

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB II. BANZHOVF, OF CHRISTIANA, IDENNSYLVANIA.
ANTIRATTLER FOR WINDOW-SASHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 636,939, dated November 14, 1899. Application iilecl February 24, 1899. Serial No. 706,669. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB H. BANZHOE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Christiana, county of Lancaster, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Antirattlers for Window-Sashes, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to improvements in that class of devices designed for preventing the rattling of window and other sliding sash; and the objects of myimprovements are, first, to provide an antirattler that will at all times act automatically to prevent rattling of the.
sash, and, second, to combine in the same member the function of an antirattler and that of a Weather-strip.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of the various parts, as hereinafter fully described and then pointed out in the claim. Y
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure l is an inside elevation of the frame and sash of a carwindow having myinvention applied thereto; Fig. 2, a vertical section thereof on broken line 2 2 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 3 a transverse section on broken line 3 3 of Fig. l. Fig. 4 shows a modification in the form of the antirattler.
Referring to the details of the construction, A indicates the window-jambs,a the inside bead, and a the outside bead.
B indicates the stiles of the window-frame, and B the Window-glass.
For the purposes of. this specification the groove formed by the window-jamb and the inside and the outside beads will be termed the sash-guide.
In the sash-guide, adjacent to the jamb, is located the antirattler, formed of spring metal and having two leaves. One of these leaves D rests in a recess in the jamb and has its free end extending beneath the outside bead a', which bears thereon, and this free end of leaf D is further secured by a nail or screw e, passing through a'hole therein and into the jamb. The other'end of leaf D extends beneath the inside bead a and is connected by a curved elbow Z with leaf D', which iiares outward diagonally toward outside bead a and the stile B of the window-sash, which is beveled, as shown at b, the leaf D' bearing against said bevel. One of these two-leaved springs is located in each sash-guide and eX tends from top to bottom thereof, The pres lsure of leaves D against the Window-sash is such that, while they hold the sash in an ele'- vated position and prevent any rattling thereof, they at the same time press said sashA against the inside bead of the window-frame and preven t theentrance of air, dust, and dirt.
In Fig. 4 is shown a top View of a modification in the form of the antirattler wherein the leaves are connected byabead-like elbow, as shown, which increases the resiliency of leaf D.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, in an antirattler, of a stile of a sash having the outer edge beveled, a twoleaved spring located in the sash-guide and extending the length thereof, one leaf of the spring being located in a recess in the back of the sash-guide and having its free end eX- tending beneath the outside bead of the window-frame, and a curved' elbow connecting the leaves of the spring and extending beneath the inside bead of the window-frame, the other leaf of the spring bearing against the beveled edge of said stile, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
