CHRISTIAN FLECK, OF OIILIGS, GERMANY.
KNEADINGl-EVIACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 635,310, dated October 24, 1899.
Application filed April 7, 1899. Serial No. 712,059. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, CHRISTIAN FLEcK, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Oh'ligs, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kneading- Machines, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention consists of a tank or receptacle in which two shafts are supported at opposite inclinations, and said shafts are provided with agitating-arms arranged in different horizontal planes and rotating with their respective shafts so that they cross each others paths, of a peculiarly-formed bottom for said tank, of giving a peculiar form to the agitating-arms and adapting them to travel in lines parallel to the aforesaid bottom, and in the provision of other details useful and novel, as will be fully described.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section of my invention complete on a central line. Fig. 2 is a vertical crosssection on line t' vl of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the machine.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a tank or receptacle suitably mounted on a base M.
B and C represent, respectively, shafts set at an inclination toward each other and located in the central longitudinal planeof the tank. Said shafts pass through and are guided at their lower parts in suitable bearings in the bottom D, and at their upper ends have bearings in openings in a bar E, arranged transversely of the tank. The shafts B and C are rotated by a drive-shaft F, which is journaled in suitable bearings X X on the cross-bar E and has keyed to one end a iiy- Wheel N and may be driven by hand or any suitable power. F is transmitted to the shafts B and O by means of a bevel gear-wheel G on the shaft F, G on the upper end of the shaft B, meshing with the gear G, and gear-wheels II H', fixed on the lower ends of the shafts B and O, respectively, and having their teeth intermesh, whereby the shafts are rotated in opposite directions.
Q represents a metal or other suitable casing, within which the gear-wheels G G' are housed.
The rotation of said shaft Each of the shafts B and O carries a series of agitating and kneading arms, preferably arranged in pairs and curved, as J and K. Said arms are arranged one above the other upon their respective shafts, so that the two series when rotated will cross each others paths between the shafts. Said arms are of such length that the arms of one series are brought close to the shaft of the second series, but without striking same, and are bent or curved convex to the direction of rotation. The arms are arranged at such angles to their respective shafts that they travel in a horizontal plane and so that the upper arm of one series passes over the lower arm of the other series.
The bottom D is suitably secured to the walls of the tank and slopes downwardly and inwardly toward the shafts B and C, while the portion between said shafts is horizontal.
The upper arm K of each series of agitators carries at its outer end an extension or blade L, set at an acute angle to said arm, said blade serving to detach the paste from the shaft upon the rotation of the arm, whereby the paste is efectively prevented from being twisted around said shaft.
A door M is provided in the front wall of the tank A, through the Way of which the completed paste is removed from the tank. Said door maybe locked by means of a screw W or. its equivalent.
The apparatus above described is used by placing the materials to be kneaded into the tank and the arms rotated. The peculiar shape of the arms serves to drive the materials toward the walls of the tank, while the shape of the bottom D tends to throw them toward the center, thus thoroughly mixing and kneading the materials.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A kneading-machine comprising a tank, inclined shafts mounted in a vertical plane in said tank, means for rotating said shafts in opposite directions, a bottom having downwardly and inwardly inclined sides secured to said tank, agitating-arms secured to said shafts and adapted to rotate parallel with the said bottom, and provided with angularlyarranged extensions, as described.
IOO
shafts carrying on its upper end a bevel-pinion, a drive-shaft, a bevel-pinion on said driveshaft and meshing with a like pinion on the inclined shaft, a bottom having downwardly and inwardlyT inclined sides and horizontal central portion, arms secured to said shafts and curved convex to the direction of their movement, said arms being adapted to rotate parallel to said bottom, and angular eXtensions on said arms, substantially as set forth.
