Unrrnn S'rArns Amena riuniti JAMES E. CLARK, OF LONG BRANCH, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO BARTON A. NICKEN, OF SAME PLACE.
SPlECIFIGATION forming part o'f Letters Patent No. 634,847, dated October 10, 1899.
Application filed April 2.3, 1897. Serial No. 633.453. (No model To tu whorrbt may concern: v
Be it known that I, JAMES E. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Long Branch, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Churn and Egg-Beater; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enro able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a combined churn and egg-beater; and the object is to provide a simple, convenient, and effective device of i 5 this class for household use 5 and to this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fullydescribed, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

view of the dasher. tion.
l represents the cylindrical churn-body, which may be of any suitable material and 3o size to coliform to the quantity of material to be treated, and it is provided with the removable cover 2, which is provided with a central ori'lice 3 and three equidistant ori- Iices el 4t, arranged concentric with the central orifice 3.
5 represen ts a sm aller screen-cylinder open at both ends and formed of closely-interwoven vertical and horizontal strands of resilient wire. This cylinder is provided with stiffen- 4o ing bands or rings 6 7 at its top and bottom edges. On the inner side of said cylinder are three equidistant guard-rods 8,which bear against the stiffening-bands, and the upper ends 9 of said rods project above the upper end of the cylinder and enga-ge the orifices in the cover.
In the accompanying drawings the same' Fig. 3 is a detail Fig. lisa horizontal sec-V IO represents the cylindrical dasher, and ll the dasher-rod fixed thereto.
The dasher l0 is guided in its reciprocaticns and prevented from coming into contact with and injuring the screen-cylinder by the guardrods S, and itis formed with two parallel rectangular orifices l2 l2.
I3 13 represent gravity-valves pivoted to the under side ofthe dasher and adapted to automatically close the orifices 12 during the downward movement of the dasher and to open during the upward movement of the dasher.
le le represent stop-arms on the valves, which abut against the under face of the dasher to limit the open movement of the valves.
Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several parts of my invention, I do not desire to be confined tothe same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A churn, comprising a churn body or cas# ing l having a cover 2, a screen-cylinder 5 inclosed within said casing and formed of closelyinterwoven vertical and horizontal strands of resilient wire, stilfening bands or rings 6 7 at the top and bottom edges thereof, guard-rods 9 extending longitudinally on the inner side of the screen-cylinder between the lower stiffening-band thereon and the casingcover and bearing against said stiffeningbands, and a reciprocating dasher bearing against and guided by said rods, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES E. CLARK.
