To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES Bureaus, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and'State off-Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pole or Shaft Supportriage, showing a portion of the pole or shaft supporter in section. Fig. 2 represents asectional side elevation of a-carriage, showing the pole or shaft supporter longitudinally in section. Fig. 3 represents a detail perspective view of the improved pole or shaft supporter, and Fig. 4 represents a cross-section onthe line 4 4 shown in Fig; 3.

My improved pole or shaft supporter consists of a bar or lever B, the forward end of which is slotted or forked, as shown at f in Figs. 2 and 3. In the slottedor forked portion f is received the adjustable supportinglink G, which is forked or slotted, as shown at g in said Figs. 2 and 3, for the purpose of receiving a clamping-bolt h passing through a perforation in the bar or lever F and the forked or slotted portion of the link G. H is a thumb-nut on the screw-bolt h for securing the link G in any desired position to the bar or lever F, as shown in Fig. 3. On the under side of the bar F, I make a longitudinal groove F; (shown in Figs. 1,2, and 4) for the purpose of receiving the head of the kin bolt 0 when the pole or shaft supporter is in use,-as represented: in Fig. 2. The device is very simple in construction, is composed of very few parts, and isreadily' adjustable for carriages or wagons of any kind. \Vhen not needed for use, the device may be foldedtogether in ,a very small com= pass. V
What I wish to secure by Letters Patent and claim is The herein-described pole or shaft supporter comprising a bar F consisting of a single integral piece of wood provided on its un der side with a longitudinal groove F and bifurcated at one end, as at f, a shaft-supporting link Glongitudinally slotted or forked from one end to near its opposite end and disposed between the forked ends of the said bar, an adjusting-bolt h extending through perforations in the forked ends of the bar and through the slot in the link, and a thumbnut for tightening said bolt to secure the parts in their adjusted positions, the grooved under side of the bar being arranged to engage the king-bolt of the vehicle and the upper end of the link operating to engage and support the pole or shafts, substantially as described.
