UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN WILLIAM THRUSH, OF KEYSER, WEST VIRGINIA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 634,740, dated October 10, 1899.
Application filedllllay 25, 1899- Serial No. 718,184- (No model.)
i To all wnom it may concern:
Be it known that I,-JoHN WILLIA THRUSH, a citizen of the Unit ed States, residing at Keyser,in the county ofMineraland State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Flows; and I do declareprovements in plows and cultivators; and the object is to improve and simplify the construction and increase the utility and efficieucy of the implement.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of m yimproved plow orcultivator. Fig. 2 is a top plan View. Fig. 3 shows one manner of adjusting theplow. Fig. 4 shows the manner of adjusting the cultivator for plowing corn.
In the drawings, ldenotes a clevis having three cars 2, 3, and 4, in which the beams 5, 6, and 7, respectively, are pivoted, and this clevis is formed with a slot 8 to receive the coupling-link 9, in which the single'or double tree 10 is pivoted. Each beam is provided with a standard 12, the lower endof which carries the usual shovel-point 13.
14 14: denote X-shaped braces connecting the standards, the outer ones and the bottom part of the central one being provided with eyebolts 15 15 to receive the contiguous ends of the braces 14, the inner upper ends of which are journaled in a slotted bracket 16, having a sliding engagement with the central standard bymeans of the screw-bolts 17 17.
18 denotes a U-shaped bracket fixed to the central beam to receive the forward ends of the handle-bars 19 19, which are supported on the centerstandard by the transverse brace 20 and the V-shaped brace 21. 'A second V- shaped brace 22 also connects the handles with the center beam, and the upper ends of this latter brace terminate in lateral ears 23 23, which rest upon suitable angle-brackets 24. 24:, fixed to the outside standards.
.2525 denote lateral bracket-arms fixed to the, opposite sides of the central beam and which alternately engage the guard-shoes 26 26, fixed to the inside face of both of the outside beams, as shown, and which serve as guards for the forward ends of the beams. The upper ends of the outside standards are formed with notches 27 27 to receive the handistanceto the rear, so that when plowing v corn the two outside shovel-points form a furrow near the corn-row and the rear shovelpoint splits the center.
. It will of course be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor 'details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to besecured by Letters Pate nt,,is
A plow comprising a clevis, the three plowbeams pivoted thereto, and provided with the standards and shovel-points, the X-shaped braces connecting said standards, the handles attached to the center beam and standard, and means for locking the beams in advance of each other, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN WILLIAM THRUSH.
