WITNESSES i v NVE TOR v I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ERNST H. I-IUENEFELD, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 634,668, dated October 10, 1899.
Application filed December 30,1897. Serial No. 664,553. No model-J To all whom it vea concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST H. HUENEFELD, a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamiltonand State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in wood-burning heating-stoves, andis designed more particularly as an improvement on the stove shown and described in my application Serial No. 664,044, filed by me December 28, 1897.
In the stove shown in my application above referred to the fire-pot is provided with removable top and bottom plates held in place by bolts passing longitudinally outside the fire-pot and through both plates. This construction of stove is admirably adapted for the repair of the parts subjected to rough usage and intense heat; but the cost is slightly more than other stoves of the same general character; and the object of the present in- V vention is to simplify the structure and provide a stove with a sectional fire-pot so constructed that the parts of the fire-pot can be renewed when burned out or injured, but
'which is more simple in construction and less expensive than the construction disclosed in my other application. I
With this end in view my invention consists in the details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View in longitudinal section of a stove embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 is a View in horizontal section, taken on the line .56 w of Fig. 1.
The fire-pot B is preferably cylindrical and i the jacket angular, the smaller diameter of the jacket being slightly greater than the diameter of the fire pot, thus forming a restricted air-space between the jacket and the fire-pot midway the corners of the jacket and enlarged air-spaces at the corners. I
The collar 0 for the smoke-pipe is provided with a flange 0, shaped to conform to the face of the fire-pot, and with spacing blocks or shoulders 0 which form seats for the jacket A, and thus operate to brace and strengthen the parts and maintain them in-their proper relative positions. The top plate Z) of the firepot is simply a ring or flange seamed to the body of the pot and carrying the collar a, integral with the ring a. This ring a surrounds the fuel-opening in the top plate I) and is removably secured to said top plate by screws and nuts and is provided with spacing-blocks a integral therewith or secured thereto and forming seats for the top of the jacket.
The fire-pot B is provided near its lower end With a corrugation forming an internal circumferential bead 17 against which the edge of the removable bottom I) bears. This bottom D is provided with a depressed or downwardly-turned edge (Z, the extreme edge cl being bent outwardly and slightly upwardly, so as to take under the lower edge of the firepot. This edge (1 of the bottom fits closely within the base of the fire-pot B, with its face well up under the bead b which latter closes up any crevices that might otherwise open into the fire-pot, and thus forms an air-tight bottom and, together with the edge cl, prevents the possibility of any ashes falling through onto the floor. This bottom is secured in place within the base of the fire-pot by the bolts E,
passing through the edge or flange d and through the fire-pot and are secured by the nuts E. As the bottom of the jacket is open, the nuts E are accessible from the under side of the stove. Hence with this construction it will be seen that the bottom can be removed for renewal or repairs without disturbing or disconnecting any of the parts, thus enabling a damaged or worn-out bottom to be replaced at slight expense and without the aid of skilled labor.
If desired, I can provide the stove with a damper, such as disclosed in my application previously referred to, or, if desired, I can employ a door and provide the same with a flue-box, such as I have shown. The firepot is secured to the jacket by bolts passing through the top of the jacket and pot and by bolts around the smoke-flue, and,if necessary, by braces or spacing-blocks below. I make no claim, however, to the broad idea of a door carrying the flue-box adapted to discharge the air directly into the fire-pot, as such construction is claimed in the application to J. B. Carter, filed December 28, 1897, Serial No. 663,975.
It is evident that various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the several parts herein shown and described Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I would have it understood that Ido not limit myself to the precise details herein shown and described, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a stove the combination with a jacket open at its lower end, of a fire-pot secured to and suspended within the jacket and comprising a body and a bottom the latter having a depending peripheral flange having an outwardly-turned edge adapted to receive and overlap the lower edge of the body of the firepot, and removable fastening devices passing through the flange and body below the bottom so as to be accessible from the under side of the stove.
2. In a stove, the combination with a jacket open at its lower end, of a fire-pot secured to and suspended Within the jacket and comprising a body having an internal bead near its lower end, a bottom resting against the under side of the bead and having a depending peripheral flange, and removable fastening devices passing through said flange and body, the said fastening devices being wholly outside the fire-pot and accessible from the bottom of the stove, substantially as set forth.
3. In a stove the combination With a body, of a removable bottom therefor, the latter having depending peripheral flange having an outwardly-turned edge adapted to receive and overlap the lower edge of the body, and removable fastening devices passing through the flange and body below the bottom so as to be accessible from the under side of the stove, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERNST I-I. IIUENEFELD.
