UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY R. SIEVERKROPP, OF RACINE, WISCONSIN.
BICYCLE-PEDAL ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 634,592, dated October 10, 1899. Application filed December 19, 1898. Serial 110,699,641. (No model.)
To a llwhom it may concern.-
Be it known thatI, HENRY R. SIEVER- KROPP, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicycle Pedal Attachments; and I do hereby declare speeding and control of a bicycle 5 audit con-- sists in a simple, economical, strong, and du rable pedal attachment similar to that which is hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawing and subsequently claimed.
The drawing is' a perspective view of a partly-brokenbicycle-pedal attachment in accordance with my invention.
Referring by letter to the drawing, A indicates each of a pair of parallel spring-metal plates thatare designed for detachable connection with the front and rear of a bicyclepedal, as by means of the bolts 1'), nuts 0, and washers (1 herein shown.
Each plate A is bent to form a pair of parallel splitv sleeves longitudinally thereof, and in adjustable engagement with the sleeve portions of the plates are horizontal ends of otherwise upwardly and inwardly bent yokes 13, each of which is herein shown made from a single stiff wire and preferably shaped to avoid sharp angles. Compression of the plate-sleeves serves to hold the yokes in adjusted position, and this compression is had by the means employed to hold the plates in detachable connection with the pedal.
The plates A and yokes B constitute an adjustable foot-clip attachment for a bicyclepedal of any well-known variety, and clips similar to those herein set forth not only insure foothold on bicycle-pedals to which they are connected, but they also make itpossible for bicycle-riders to exert their greatest lift-' -l. A foot-clip comprising a pair of plates attachableto the front and rear of abicyclepedal, and a pair of upwardly and inwardly bent stiff-wire yokes in adjustable connection with the plates.
2. A foot-clip comprising a pair of plates attachable to the front and rear of a bicyclepeda-l, a pairof upwardly and inwardly bent stifi-wire yokes in adjustable connection with the plates, and a metal shield crimped on each yoke to present smooth inside foot-opposing surface.
3. A foot-clip comprising a pair of springmetal plates, each bent to form a pair of parallel sleeves longitudinally thereof, clamping devices for connecting the plates with the front and rear of a bicycle-pedal, and a pair of upwardly and inwardly bent stifi-wire yokes having their ends adjustable in said sleeves.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
A. CARY Juno, 0. Y. MRosH.
