UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AARON M. \VEBER, OF OSHKOSII, \VISGONSIN.
EDGE-PROTECTOR FOR GARM ENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 633,496, dated September -1 e, 1899 Application filed December 8, 1897. Serial No. 661,153. (Model-J T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AARON M. VVEBE'R, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oshkosh, in the county of \Vinnebago, State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Edge-Protectors for Garments, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in edge-protectors for skirts or other garments, and especially to that class in which a brush edge is provided at the bottom to receive the wear from the ground or floor alongwhich the garment is dragged.
The object of the invention is to provide a facing with a brush edge-2'. e., an edge composed of a series of folded bunches which are so incorporated with the facing as to form a projecting ridge or cord around the bottom of the facingthis being accomplished by weaving the warp-threads around the folded bunches below the fold of the latter, thus causing said bunches at the fold to bulge, forming, practically, a ridge around the lower part of said facing.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and referred to in the appended claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a side elevation of a piece of fabric constructed in accordance with my invention the relationof the parts being shown in exaggerated form. Fig. 2 is a crosssection of Fig. 1.
A represents the body of the binding or facing, woven in a manner known in the art and composed of the continuous weft or upright threads a and the warp or horizontal threads 1). In the drawings the continuous weft or filling thread a has looped through its bights at the lower end a series of folded bunches or tufts of thread 0, and below these bights, adjacent the fold, additional warpthreads d are interwoven with the bunches or tufts and compress the bunches or tufts below the bights, causing the latter to bulge out slightly and forming, in effect, a cord around the bottom of the facing adjacent the upper edge of the brush part.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An edge-protector for garments, consisting of a head and a brush, said head being formed of weft and warp threads and said brush being formed of tufts secured to the wefts by binding warp-threads to form a projecting ridge or cord on the protector.
2. An edge-protector, consisting of a head and a brush, said head being formed of weft and warp threads, said brush. being formed of U -shaped pieces looped through the bends of the weft at one selvage and connected by separate binding-threads adjacent the bends of the weft.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature
