IMPROVED HYDRAULIC PAINT.
@lge some umb tn in first iilritrrs 5 3mm amt mating part in tip Sttlltt.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, DANIEL R. PRINDLE, of East Bethany, in the county of Genesee, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Paint for brick and stone; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the ingredients and mode of compounding the same.
I take hydraulic lime, grind it to fine flour, and sift it for use, and then mix it with sealded skim-milk, generally while warm, in sueh proportions as to give the proper consistency to the paint To brighten the natural color of the lime, a little chrome yellow may be added which will give very nearly the color of Milwuw kee bricks, or other pigments may be added, to give any desired shade of color. This paint, applied to brick and stone walls, renders them nearly impervious to water, and a single coat, thoroughly applied,-will last many years. Though other substances may be used with the paint, care should be taken 'not to add anything which will, nor in such quantities as to, lessen the peculiar virtues of the hydraulic lime, or to deaden the color. But I believe the addition of linseed flour, in the proportion of about one part to twenty parts of the lime, produces an improved result.
What claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A paint, composed of pulverized hydraulic lime and skim-milk, either with or without the addition of chrome yellow, or other pigment, as herein specified.
In combination with the above, I'also claim the use of linseed flour, as set forth.
The above specification of my improved hydraulic lime paint signed by me this 26th day of December, 1866.
D. R. PRINDLE.
