SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 632,141, dated August 29, 1899.

Application led November l0, 1898. Serial NO- 6961045- (NO modem State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shirt-Bosom Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This inventionrelates to improvements in devices for holding a shirt front or bosom to prevent its bulging.

The bulging of shirt-fronts is often caused by the vest of the wearer widening or spreading at the front and engaging against the edges of the shirt-bosom.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and comparatively inexpensive device for securing the opposite edges of a bosom to a vest in such manner as to prevent the spreading of the vest and the consequent bulging of the shirt-bosom.

I will describe a shirt-bosom holder embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The device comprises a metal plate having a shank portion l, terminating in a hook 2 at one end and having its opposite end broadened and provided with prongs 3, adapted to be forced through the material of the vest o and clenched. Then in place, the shank portion of the plate will bear closely against the inner side of the vest, and the prongs are to be inserted through the material underneath the vest-collar. It is to loe understood that there will be one of these plates or hook-sections at each side of the vest-opening, and as the devices are designed particularly for evenin g-dress vests they are to be a permanent attachment thereof. By widening the outer ends the plates will be held from twisting or turning relatively to the vest.

The portions of the device designed to be removably connected to a shirt each consist of a hollow button 4 and a removable shank 5. On the end of the shank 5 are oppositely-extended lugs 6 7 adapted to engage with longitudinally-curved spring-plates 8 9, secured within the button. The rear wall of the loutton is provided with a slot l0, through which the lugs may be passed. This slot lO has its length extended lengthwise of the springs,

so that after inserting the shank and giving it a one-quarter turn the lugs by impinging against the springs will look the shank and button together.

In use the shank is to be passed through an eyelet formed near the edge of the shirt front or bosom y and the button engaged with the shank at the inner side. Attached to the shank, as here shown by means of a link ll, is a loop 12, designed to be engaged with the hook 2. The loops 12 are preferably of elastic material, so that there may be a slight yieldingA of the shirt and vest relatively to each other, but not suihcient to permit the edges of the vest to engage the edges of the shirt front or bosom.

It will be noted that while the shirt-bosom is held from bulging by the drawing action of the vest the opening of the vest-front is held from spreading because of the connection of the plates at points near the edges of the opening and the pushing strain on the plates.

Having thus described my invention, I

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. In a device for the purpose described, a plate having prongs at one end to attach it to a vest material near the edge of the front opening of the vest, andhaving a hook at the other end, the said plate -beiug extended inward from the edge of said front opening, a loop for engaging with the hook, and means for removably connecting the loop to a shirt, substantially as specified.

2. The combination, with avest, of a plate extended along the vest-lining and attached at one end to the vest at a point near the edge of the front opening of said vest and having IOO a book at its opposite end, a flexible loop for engaging with the hook, and means for detaohably securing the loop to a shirt, the complete device serving to prevent a bulging of the shirt-front relatively to the vest, and also to prevent the spreading of the vest-front opening relatively to the shirt-front, substantially as specied.

3. The combination, with a, hook adapted for connection with avest, of a loop, a. shank connected to the loop and having diemetrieally-extended lugs, a hollow button having a', slo't through which the lugs may pass, and two longitudinally-curved springs in the button, extended lengthwise of the slotand with which the lugs are designed to lock upon a quarter-turn of the shank,l substantially as specified.
