.To all 1071.071?, it inlay concern);
Be it known that I, GREGORY a subject of kthe EmperorofRussia,-residing at Tiflis, Russia, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in;Injector- BurnfI ers for Hydrocarbon-Furnaces, (for which l' have obtained lBritish Letters Patent No; 21,651 of'1898, issued January 7, 1899 ,-,Frencli Letters Patent No. 281,969, issued'Jauu'ary 5, issued October 15, 1898; Austrian LettersPat# ent No. 49/327, issued January 2, 1899;'Hungarian Letters Patent, dated Octoberlli, 18,98; German which the following is a speciiication.
My invention has relationI to aninjector,-V
of such a burner.'
The principal object of 'my invennon list@ finely divided, Well mixed with air or oxygenated gas, and precipitated into the furnace in the form of a iame of wide area.
To this end my invention pr1marily consists ina burner wherein the fuel is forced from the nozzle in a whirling or spiral direction and mixed at the point of issuance from the nozzlewith air orother gas necessary for the complete combustion of the dame. Y
My invention further consists of an injectorfburner for. hydrocarbon and similar furnaces constructed and arranged in sub- 5o sectional view ofthe' nozzle end of said stantially the manner hereinafter vdescribed and claimed. u Y' The nature andscope of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the aceoinpanying drawings, forming part hereof, and .in Which- Figure l is a side elevational view, partly in longitudinal secti0n,`of embodying main features cf my present invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal Cnnmtisnr,

...fishery an injector-burner burner, and Figs. 3, VAtand 5 are longitudinal sectional views of Vmodified forms', of the burner illustrated' in Figs. `1 and 2.
' Referring'to Eiga-1 andQ of the drawings, a' represents theouter and b the inner tube of the burner, which are nested or concentrieally arranged, so jas to leave a space b? between their contiguous lWalls.` The outer tube ais formed,preferably,in three sections, prirmipally for the purpose of repairs and Th'etvvo inain lsections are united nipples a2 and a3.' The third section u. forms the'y nozzle for` thebu'rner, and .it has a conical end a5, terminating in a flaring or bellshaped extension n, designed toserve asa baule-plate for `the 'flame' as it issues with a whirling motion from the burner into the furnace;y :"Theinuer tube b is provided with a conical endb", fitting into the conical endV 'of the nozzleaf, and', as shovvn in thedrawing's, 1 it-lias lon; that portion'adjacent te its conical ende.v spiral portionb, which' is 'formed by cutting ythreads of suitable pitch onthe peof the tube or in any suitable mannerjg *I The spiral channel may be formed, if desired,l upon the interior of the contiguous portion of thenozzle c. The tube l) may be advanced .or retracted inthe tube a bymeans of a hand-Wheel g, the tube b being in threaded engagement, as atfbs, with the tube a, and thus the volume of fuel may be regulated.
The nipple a2 ofthe sleeve ai communi! cates with the space b4 between the .tubes c and h, and through this nipple c? is introduced -the'fueL which maybe petroleum, naphtlia, masut, or similar liquids. is forced under pressure through .the space bL andy through the spiral Way or channelb2 and escapes from the nozzle in a iinely-divided state and With a whirling motion. Air or similar gas isV introduced into the tube b and may be either forced Vunder pressure Thefuel l through said tube or else sucked through the same by the whirling motion of the fuel at the outlet from the nozzle. In any event the air is mixed thoroughly with ythe fuel4 at the outlet from the burner. lf desired, the air may also be given a whirling Vmotion priorto being mixed with the fuel. This may be accomplished by inserting in the tube 5near its conical end, a spiral piece b5. When fuel is injected through the nipple co2, the other nipple a3 is closed, and when the burner is to be cleaned the nipple a2 is closed and the nipple CL3 is opened and attached to a source ot' steam -supply, when steam will be blown through the nozzle to remove the accumulated impurities from the burner.
In the modied form of burner illustrated in Fig. 3 the construction and arrangement of. parts are substantially the same as those shown in Figs. l and 2, with the exception that the inner tube b of Figs. l and 2 is replaced by two concentric tubes Z211 and 1912, each of which has a conical end 1913 and Z914, adjacent to which the spiral channels Z915 and b1 are formed. In this. modification the outer tubey b is moved within the outer tube ct by means of a hand-wheel g', Whereas the other tube Z912 is moved within tube Z111 by means of a hand-wheel g. In this form a double` adjustmentA at the nozzle for the outflow of fuel is afforded, and thefuel is forced through two passages, from each of w-hich it is delivered to the outlet in a whirling spray or vapor. l
ln Figs. 4 and 5 still further modifiedy forms of burners are shown, wherein the spiral way b21 is formed at the conical portion of the nozzle, and in Fig.`5 within the inner tube 622 is located a second tube 1123, throughwhich a portion of the fuel, together with heated air or gas, is forced, the fuel entering through the nipples 09and 010. The main charge of fuel enters through nipple o10 and passes through the space b4 between tubea and tube Z922. In
theiform shown at Fig. 5 the tubes a and' 1)?2 are immovable, and the tube b2: only is adjustable.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention,whatl claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. An injector-burner for hydrocarbon and similar furnaces, comprising-an outer tube, a nozzle having a conical end carried by said outer tube, a curvedbafde-plate carried by said nozzle, an air-tube arranged concentric with the outer tube but separated therefrom to form a passage-way for the fuel anda spiral thread formed between the two tubes at or adjacent to their concentric conical ends and adapted to form a spiral continuation for the passage-way for the fuel, substantially as and for the purposes-described.
2. An injector-burner-for hydrocarbon and similar furnaces,.comprising an-outertube, a nozzle having a conical end and curved baffle-plate carried by said outer tube, an airtube arranged concentric withthe outer tube and nozzle but separated therefrom to-form a passage-way for the fuel, a spira-l thread formed between the two tubes at or adjacent tok their concentric conical ends and adapted to form a spiral continuation for the passage'- way for the fuel, and a spiral piecey located within the air-tube, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I havel hereunto set my signature in the presence of' two'subscrib'- ingwitnesses.
' GREGORY CI-IlELIMSKY.
