To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS SYLVESTER ERSKINE, acitizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Fayette and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plow-Tools, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in plow-toolsthat is, a tool for sharpening dull plowshares.-
The main object of my invention is the provision of a single tool which contains in its construction a set of different sharpeningtools and which is very simple, durable, and cheap, thus rendering it very useful and practical.
- To attain the desired objects, the invention consists of a plow-tool embodying novel features of construction, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved plow-tool, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical central sectional view of amodified form of my invention.
In the drawings, A designates the tool or body portion, which has a head or striking end B and the angular point or cutting edge 0. Formed upon the body portion, near the point thereof, are the stepped shoulders D, E, and F. The shoulder D is provided with the flat or plain surface D, whose outer edge D is oval or convex lengthwise thereof. The shoulder E is provided with the oval face E, convex lengthwise, while the shoulder F is provided with the squared surface F, which has a bevel of a short distance in depth and the same.

In using my tool if a straight edge is desired the point of the tool is placed at nearly a right angle to the plowshare and the tool, hit with a hammer or mallet, thus breaking off the edge in a straight line, and should the edge need more or less. taking ed the other shoulders are brought into use, and thus it will be seen that the difierent-shaped shoulders when placed at nearly right angles to the share will break out different-shaped pieces from the share and produce a desired edge on the share. v In the modification I form the tool with the oppositely-arranged shoulders with correspondingly-sloped surfaces.
It is evident that I provide a simple, durable, and cheap plow-tool which is very useful and practical, as it embodies in onetool four different cutting edges to make difierent depths of cuts or nicks upon a dull plowshares edge.
'I claim- A tool for sharpening plowshares, consisting of a body portion, a head for-med therewith, a straight-edged point formed upon the other end of the body portion, and a series of stepped shoulders formed upon the body portion near the point thereof, each provided with a difierent-shaped surface to break different-shaped pieces from the share to sharpen "rooms SYLVESTER results.
