UNITED STATES- PnTENT OFFICE.
HENRY JAMES MILLER, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
ARTIFICIAL TOOTH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 628,345, dated'J'uly 4, 1899. Application filed December 10, 1897. Serial No. 661,401. (No model.)
hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In order that I may be readily understood, I have shown in the accompanying drawings the application of my invention to artificial molar teeth.
Figure 1 shows vertical sections of two molar teeth constructed according to my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The tooth consists of a lining 0, made of metal, and of a tooth proper, a, made of any suitablesubstance or mixture used in imitation of natural teeth, these two parts being strongly united. To effect this, I proceed as follows, viz: In a plate of metal 0, in any convenient manner, I carve out or recess a part corresponding to the shape of the tooth. One
the whole to baking in an oven at a high temperature. some degree cast or incorporated with the metal 0 and the two practically form an integral body. There is not, therefore, any space between the tooth and the metallic plating, thus giving it a great resistance.
In order to give the teeth, and particularly the molar teeth, a high degree of strength and durability, the cavity of the tooth into which the metal is run is provided with lateral notches e, in which a metallic bar can be placed for uniting the teeth, the metal at the time of pouring running from one tooth to the other in these notches. In this manner the teeth are made solid one with the other, as will be understood by reference to the drawings. The invention, however, is also applicable to incisor teeth.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An artificial tooth, comprising a body having a cavity, and a metallic lining secured to the body within said cavity, the lining and body being provided at the sides of the tooth with notches leading into said cavity, substantially as described.
The foregoing specification of my improvements in and relating to the manufacture and mounting or setting of artificial teeth signed by me this 23d day of November, 1897.-
I-IENRY JAMES MILLER.
