To (all whom 'it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HERMAN FINZEL, of Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of l\'Iassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-Bath Apparatus, ofwhich the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object to provide a simple and convenienti vapor-bath apparatus adapted to be conveniently set up in a room, so that it can operate in connection with a stove or heaterin the room, and adapted also to give medicated vapor-baths, if desired.

Theinvention consists in the' improvements which I will now proceed to describe and claim.

Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l represents a side elevation showing my improved apparatus and a portion of a stove. Figs 2, 3, and t are perspective views showing parts of the screen-supporting frame. Fig. 5 represents in part a sectional view of the movable steamoutlet of the generating vessel and in part a perspective view of the steam-distributer and drip-pan connected with said outlet. represents a sectional View of a portion of the top of the steam-generator. Fig. 7 represents a section on line 7 7 of Fig. 5.

The same letters of reference indicate the same parts in all the figures.

In the drawings, ce represents a steam-generator, which is preferably a cylindrical sheetlnetal receptacle adapted to rest upon the top of a stove I) and provided at its top with a screw-threaded neck a', through which the steam generated escapes.

c represents a cap formed to be screwed onto the outlet a and provided with a tube c', extending crosswise of the cap and rigidly attached thereto, one end of said tube being bent downwardly and connected with a dexible pipe d. The outlet c is connected with pipes c' by a passage c2, so that steam generated in the receptacle a passes into the tube c and from the latter through the iiexible tube d.

d outside of said pan, the main portion of the distributingpipe being within the pan and provided with perforations c2 in its lower side for the escape of steam into the pan.

j" represents a handle which is attached to the tube c/ and closes one end of said tube, the handle being connected with the receptacle a by the tube c and cap c and enabling the receptacle to be conveniently moved about, the handle being separated from the body of the receptacle by the cap and tube, so that it does not become uncomfortably heated.

g represents avsafety-valve which is normally held by a spring g against the end of a vent g2 on the tube c. In case of excess of steam-pressure above a predetermined degree the valve g yields and permits the discharge of the surplus steam, thus preventing the discharge of an excessive amount of steam by the distributer e.

The receptacle a is provided between its bottom and top with a perforated partition c', adapted to support herbs in the upper portion of the receptacle in position to be subjected to the action of steam, thus medicating the steam.

I provide a sectional frame adapted to support a sheet of cloth or other flexible material over the steam-distributer e to confine the steam about the body of the bather. This frame is composed of a series of uprights jj, each having a footj', adapted to rest on the floor, and sockets jzj2 at its upper end.

The exten. sions j3 enable the height of the frame to be increased or decreased to suit the height of the bather, the extensions being adapted to be freely inserted in and removed from the standards j. p

A suitable enveloping-sheet is used with the apparatus, having provisions for being closed around the neck of the bather and formed to extend outward from the bathers toe neck over the horizontal support formed by the wires 7c, and from thence downwardly to the floor', thus making a vclosed compartment around the body of the bather. The supportingframe is preferably made of such siZe that a chair can be placed within it, so that the bather may occupy a sitting position. The steam-distributere is placed withinthe frame, and the steam discharged therefrom is distributed through the inclosure surrounding the bathers body, the water of condensaizedto lift the cover and generator, a passage for steam being formed between the said cover and tube.

2. A vapor bath apparatus comprising a suitable inclosure for the bather and a steamdistributer adapted to be located therein, a liquid-receptacle or steam-generator adapted to be placed on a stove and having a steamoutlet in its upper portion, a cover for said outlet adapted to be rigidly secured to the generator, a straight tube extending crosswise of the'cover and rigidly and permanently connected with'said cover and having one end provided with a handle forming a closure for that end of the tube, and adapted to be utilized to lift the cover and generator, a passage for steam being formed between said cover and tube, and a flexible connection between the other end of said tube and said distributer.
