Description

@uitrit faire stwt Y @Hita IMPROVED ICB-CRUSHERS.
tlgetlgetulrrefemt tu im time icttcrsrtnn amt mating putt nf tlg@ sans.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, FQF. FOWLER, of Upper Sandusky, in the county of Wyandott, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful ImprovementA in Ice-Crushers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a view of one side of: the Crusher. Figure 2I represents a plan of the under side of the under or base-plate. Figure 3 represents a vertical longitudinal section through the machine.
Similar letters of reference, where they occur in the separate figures, denote like parts of the machine in all the drawings. 4
My invention relates to a convenient portable ice-Crusher, in which the ice is placed in a box, and a guided follower, operated by a lever, is brought down upon it, which crushes it against anddrives it through suitablev holes in the bottom of said box, and into any receptacle placed underneath said box.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same'with reference to the drawings.
The base A, ice-box, B, and standard, C, may all be cast in and constitute one piece, the openings a between the ribs b in the base-plate boing-cast in at the same time. The ends c of thc ice-box B project up above the lsides d, and a cross-piece, e, is secured thereon to form a guide for the follower D, aswill be explained. To thc top of the standard C there is pivoted, as at f, a lever, E, which extends forward, and terminates in a handle, g. At about the centre in length ofvthis lever E, and directly over the ice-box B, there is pivoted, as atz', the follower D, the stem h of which passes through the tie-plate or cross-piece e, so as to steady it and cause it to fairly enter the box as it is raised and again lowered. Oneof the sides of the ice-box, d', (and by preference the side to the left of the user, who grasps the lever in his right hand,) is lower than the other, for the easy insertion of the ice. The follower D is guided and steadied first by thev tie'plate e, through a slot in which its neck, L, works; and, as additional guides, V-shaped ribs, jj, may be used on the endsc of the box B, over which similar-shaped recesses in the follower may take, so that there would be no jamming or cramping of the follower in the box. l The machine is designed to be screwed to a table or counter, or to be mounted on a stand, and underneath the table, counter, or stand, and below the holes cl a, die., there is placed a rim, It, for collecting the crushed and broken ice, and directing it into a tumbler properly placed to catch it, or any otherV suitable recep- Y taule. The advantage of the ribs and openings between them is that a part of the ice is crushed into slush ice and a part into lump ice, and the whole driven through the openings into the tumblers beneath.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' An ice Crusher, composed of a. box with holes or openings in its bottom, formed by transverse ribs, a follower 4guided to work therein, and a lever to operate said follower, the whole being combined to operate substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein described and represented.
F. F. FOWLER.
