UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD MCCARTHY, OF CENTRAL FALLS, RHODE ISLAND.
RING SPINNING AND TWISTING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,273, dated May 16, 1899. Application filed December 31, 1897. Serial No. 665,202. (No model.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD MCCARTHY, of Central Falls, in the county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ring Spinning and Twisting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to secure a uniform tension on the traveler andthe uniform ballooning of the threads; and myinvention consists in the combination of the guidewire with the separator and the ring-rail, as hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing the figure represents a perspective view illustrating my improvement.
In the drawing,Arepresents the bolster-rail B,the ring-rail; O G,the spinning-rings; D,the spindle, and E the cop upon the spindle. To the inner corner a of the ring-rail B are secured bearing-brackets F, which serve to support the rod G, to which are attached the separators H H by means of the set-screws b, the said separators being provided with the attached yarn-guides I I, through which the thread passes to the several cops. The yarn-guide I is preferably made adjustable by means of the screw 0 and slot (1 and also provided with a hinge-joint e, by means of which the yarnguide may be thrown back to allow the cop to be removed from the spindle. To the outer end of the rod G is attached the handle J, by means of the set-screw g, and by means of the handle J the rod G and the attached separators andyarn-guides may be turned back out of the way for the purpose of dotting or be brought forward, as desired, the recess h, made in the bearing-bracket F, in conjunction with the projection 11 upon the hub of the handle J serving as a stop for'both the backward and forward movements.
By my improvement the distance between eyes j of the yarn-guides and the ring-traveler will always remain the same, the yarn-guides and the separators moving up and down with the spinning-rin gs and ring-rail, so that a uniform length of thread will be included between the yarn-guide and the traveler. The yarn-guide may be jointed to the separator in any suitable manner in carrying out my invention, the hinge-joint and the adjustable screw-and-slot connection being preferred.
I claim as my invention 1. The combination of the separator H, with the yarn-guide I, provided with the joint 6, whereby the yarn-guide may be thrown back to allow the cop to be removed from the spindle, and with the slot (1, and the screw 0, whereby the yarn-guide is made adjustable, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the ring-rail, the separator-rod journaled thereto, the separators secured to the rod, and the yarn-guides jointed to the separators and adapted for independent movement for removing the cop from the spindle, substantially as described.
3. The combination of the ring-rail, the separator-rod journaled thereto, the separators secured to the rod, the yarn-guides carried by the separators, and means for adjusting the position of the yarn-guides at their connection with the separators, substantially as described.
RICHARD MCCARTHY.
