SAMUEL DESOE, or WILLOW CITY, NORTH DAKOTA.
HAY-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,096, dated May 16, 1899. Application filed November 8, 1898. Serial No. 695,846. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL DEsoE, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Villow City, in the county of Bottineau and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hay-Racks and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention has for its special object'to make a hay rack which will conveniently serve also as a wagon-body, the same being constructed entirely of metal and adapted to receive a plank flooring. The metal may be galvanized or in any suitable manner preserved from oxidation and the deteriorating effects of moisture.
In the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of the upper and lower sides of the rack, respectively.
In the drawings, A represents the rack as an entirety, on which is formed a body by means of the side rails (1, end rails a, standards a and bottom cross-bars a with the bottom rails a On the front and rear I arrange the yokes a of .which there are pref erably two in front and one in the rear. To these are attached the ends of the pole, which goes longitudinally across the middle of load, by ordinary ropes or chains. I make them in two parts, hinged at the top of frame or body, so as to be turned down when neces sary.
On the bottom of the rack I secure the angle-bars a on which are formed the bearings ad, that rest on the axles between suitable collars.
a is a cross-brace supported on the standards a and a longitudinal braces supported on said standards, but secured to a sidearm of the angle-bars a at each end, while a a are intermediate braces between the anglebars 0!. a. I
This rack is found in practice to be light, easily'handled, and admirably adapted to its two purposes, while it is cheaper in the long run or considering its durability than one made of wood.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
A vehicle-body having the sides, ends and bottom formed of rails with open spaces between them and provided on the under side of bottom with the axle-bearing angle-bars a whereby said body will be light, easily lifted on and off the running-gear, adapted to many diiferent purposes and withal inexpensive.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. SAMUEL DESOE. Witnesses:
A. COLE, THEo. KRAEMER.
