NNEOTIOUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF OF PORTLAND, MAINE, AND HOPEDALE,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,925, dated April 25, 1899.
Application filed January 3,1899.
Serial No. 700,904. (No model.)
T0 at whom, it may concern;
Be it known that I, THOMAS MOVEIGH, of Danielson, county of Windham, State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Knot-Tying Devices for Spoofing-Machines, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters and figures on the drawings representing like parts.
In United States Patent No. 498,185,
to me May 23, 1893, a knot-tying shown and described particularly adapted for use in connection with spoofing-machines, hereby the ends of threads to be united s evered e'lesetoth'eknotI One o thekiiot tiers was re *ed-fe-r each spool in said patent, attached by suitable set-screws to a longitudinally-extended rod back of and above the spools, and while the said devices are entirely and satisfactorily operative in practice the use of such a number on a spooler-frame is too expensive.
My present invention has for its object the production of means whereby a single knottier can be used for tying knots on the ends of yarns from several spools--as, for instance, all of the spools on one side of the frame.
Figure l in front elevation represents a sufficient portion of a spooler-frame to be understood, with my present invention applied thereto; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view on the line a: m, Fig. 1, of the knot-tier, the traveler to which it is attached, and the guide-support for the traveler.
The spooler-frame A, spools B, bobbin-holders O, and guides D are and may be all as common in spoolingmachines, and I have herein illustrated my invention in connection with such an apparatus.
A non-cylindrical bar a is shown in Fig. 1 as mounted on suitable standards a above and back of the spools, said bar being shown in Fig. 2 as oblong in cross-section and set on edge to form a combined guide and support for a traveler adapted to slide thereupon. The traveler comprises a body t, having a hole therethrough corresponding in shape to the cross-section of and to receive the guide-supgranted device is cross-section might be adopted for the guideport a, the non-cylindrical shape of the latter preventing tipping movement of the traveler without interfering with its lateral sliding movement. Any suitable or convenient support so long as the non-tipping and free sliding movement of the traveler is attained. The top of the traveler is shouldered at t and provided with an upturned stud t the latter entering the offset boss 0 of the knot-tier, which usually rests on the shoulder t and is held in adjusted lateral position relatively to the traveler by a set-screw 20, Fig. 1.
The knot-tying device itself, comprising the body 0, slotted to receive the shanks of the knot-forming nibs d, the thread-cutter e, pivoted at e at the rear side of the nibs, so as to cut off very close to them the yarns pinched between the nibs, and the combined thread-support and cutter-actuator f is and may be substantially as shown and operating in my patent referred to.
Obviously the operator can push the traveler along the guide-support into position adjacent any spool on the side, according to the yarn to be knotted, thus enabling a single knot-tying device to serve for the entire side of a spooler-frame. If the frame be a very long one, two of the knot-tiers could be mounted on the guide-support instead of one, as herein shown. Each side of the spooler will be similarly equipped.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. In an apparatus of the a longitudinally-extendedguide-support, and a knot-tying device free to slide on said support, and means to prevent rotation of said device on its support during sliding movement.
2. In an apparatus of the class described, a longitudinally-extended supporting-bar,-a traveler non-rotatably mounted thereupon and free to slide along said bar, and a knottying device carried by the traveler.
3. In a spoofing-machine, a longitudinallyextended guide-support located above and back of the spools, a traveler free to slide class described,
just the said device on the traveler,
ter being movable longitudinally of the bar to bring the knot-tying device into position adjacent any desired spool.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 15 two subscribing Witnesses.
THOMAS MCVEIGH.
