Description

No. 623,788. Patented Apr. 25, I899. W. L. KANN. APPARATUS FOR GRIN DING AND POLISHING.
(Application filed Jan. 3, 1899.)
(No Model.)
WITNESSES IVILLIAM L. KANN, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
APPARATUS FOR GRINDING AND POLISHING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,788, dated April 25,1899.
Application filed January 3, 1899. Se NO- i (No 11105913 To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM L. KANN, of Pittsburg, in the count-y of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Grinding and Polishing, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved apparatus for grinding and polishing plate-glass. Fig. 2 is an irregular cross-section, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed View of one of the raising and lowering screws. v V
The object of my invention is to provide a' convenient means whereby the table carrying plates of glass can be raised or lowered and transferred from a grinding or polishing machine, or vice versa.
In the drawings, T represents the table,
mounted upon wheels 2 2. These wheels, while the table is being raised or lowered, rest upon track-sections 3, and when these tracksections are lowered into position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the table is then caused to rest upon the rotating spindle 2, on which it is held in proper place during the grinding or polishing process, and when the track-sections are raised they engage said wheels and elevate the table to the level of the track 5, so that the table can be run off to another grinding or polishing machine. For the purpose of raising or lowering the track-sections I provide them with screws 6, resting in pockets 7, having worm-wheels 8, internally threaded and fitting said screws. The worm-wheels are geared into worms 8, operating by shafts 9, and these shafts are driven by sprocketchains from sprocket-pulleys 10, which are journaled in proper bearings and can be revolved in either direction by clutch-gearing 11. By operating the pulleys 10 the wormwheels on the screws are rotated and the screws are raised or lowered and the tracksections are elevated to the level of track 5, as above described, whereupon the table may be moved onto or away, as required.
There are four screws, two having righthand and two left-hand threads, one at each end of the track-sections, and as all are operated simultaneously the table is maintained at a uniform level.
I claim 1. The combination with a glass grinding or polishing table and wheels on which the same is mounted; of a track-section having a vertical movement adapted to carry the wheels; screws for raising and lowering the track-section and mechanism by which the same may be operated simultaneously.
2. The combination with a glass grinding or polishing table and wheels on which the same is mounted, of a track-section with a vertical movement, adapted to carry the wheels; screws for raising and lowering said tracksection; worm-gearing and screws, and mechanism by which the same can be operated simultaneously.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
, XVILLIAM L. KANN.
