NTTE STATES PATENT Prion.
JOSEPH MOWRY, or MANSFIELD, OHIO.
MEDiClNE-DQSE INDICATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,171, dated April 18, 1899..
Application filed January 21, 1899. Serial No. 702,9'75- (N0 model To wZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH B. MoWRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicine-Dose Indicators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvem ents in what maybe term ed medicine-dose indicators.
It has for its object, as intimated, to provide for readily indicating the interval or time of administering medicine to a patient; also, to guard against the accidental move: ment or displacement of the indices or hands after having been set.
It consists of'such indicator provided with concentric series of perforations or foraminous circles produced in the face of a time-dial and pointers or indices adapted to engage said perforations, while incidentally may be arranged in connection therewith memoranda to denote the interval of time of taking the medicine, all substantially as hereinafter more fully disclosed, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
It will be understood that latitude is allowed herein as to details, as they may be varied or changed Without departing from the spirit of my invention and the same yet remain intact and protected.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a face or front view thereof. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a modification thereof involving principally the duplicating of the dials, &c. 5 are views of still another modification, and Fig. 6 shows views of dials with various Inemoranda thereon.
In carrying out my invention I employ, say, a piece of cardboard or other suitable medium A, adapted to be suspended and hung in place and having printed or produced thereon numerals answering to those on the face of a clock-dial, as shown, also pointers or indices 13 B, sleeved or slipped at their inner ends upon a hub or eyelet a, centrally secured Figs. 4 andto the board or dial A in such manner as to permit them to be moved over said dial. These pointers 'or indices are peculiarly'construct-ed, one being preferably laterally bent or folded inwardly upon itself to form a tooth or projection 12 and its extreme end I) adapted to register with the dial-numerals, and the other pointer or index similarly bent or folded to form a tooth or projection b and its extreme end 6 adapted to register with the minute graduations or marks, the purpose of said teeth being presently disclosed.
The dial or board A is provided or produced with concentric series of perforations or foraminous circles c c, suitably arranged with relation to the dial-numerals and adapted to be engaged by the teeth or projections Z) I) of the pointers or indices B B, whereby the latter are adapted to be held, it will be-seen, as they are adjusted to the required points as relates to said nu merals and the minute graduations therebetween, and said pointers orindices thus secured or guarded against accidental movement or displacement, as will be readily appreciated.
Upon the rear side of the board or dial A, on the same eyelet or hub as the pointers or indices B B are held, is arranged a disk or card D or the like, having printed or produced thereon, say, the following: 1-1- hrs, made visible through a slot or opening 0 in the dial. The bearing or object of this'data, with the arrangement of pointers in connection with dial, will readily address itself to the understanding, and therefore does not require to be further entered into in detail.
In Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are shown duplicate dials, the lower one disclosing the words \Vhen to be taken and the upper one the words \Vas taken, the object of which is apparent. In Figs. 4 and 5 the dial-board is also shown as propped in position to permit it to stand upon a mantel or other support.
In Fig. 6 are shown disks or cards D D one having produced on it memoranda indicating hours and fractional parts of an hour and the other disk having on it When to be taken and When taken.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a medicine-dose indicator, consisting of the time in alineinent with, and at right angles to, said dial having viewing-openings and concentric lateral detents or projections, substantially series of perforations oi' apertures therein, a as set forth.
centrally or axially pivoted or movable back In testimony whereof I affix my signature 5 portion or disk having required datathereon, in presence of two Witnesses.
and pointers or indices centrally pivoted with '7' relation to the aforesaid parts, and formed JOSEPH F with bent-up lateral detents or projections to Vitnesses: engage said series of perforations, respec- JOS. E. SMITH,
