INVENTOR QQ/W ' UNITED STATES PATENT OEErcE.
SARKIS H. SEKIAN, OF MANCHESTER, ENGLAND.
MACHINE FOR IRONING SHlRT-FRONTS OR OTHER ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,698, dated February 14, 1899.
Application filed December 5, 1898. Serial No. 698,339. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARKIS HAROUTIOU SEKIAN, a subject of the Sultan of Turkey, residing in Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Ironing Shirt-Fronts or other Articles, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to that class of ironing-machines embodying a table reciprocating beneath an ironing device and provided with an ironing-block mounted on the table to turn on a vertical axis to present the article to be ironed at different positions in a horizontal plane.
The invention consists in an improved manner of mounting the ironing-block on the table, as will be more fullydescribed hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of an ironing-machine having my invention embodied therein. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation on the line a a of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the ironing-block and its circular base-plate. Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of the ironing-block and its support in modified form. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, and referring to Figs. 1, 2, and 3, A represents a table mounted, as usual, in the frame of the machine to reciprocate horizontally beneath a heated ironing-roller B. D represents an ironing-block adapted to give support to the article to be ironed and carry the same in contact with the ironing-roller as the table is reciprocated beneath the same. This block is provided with a base E rigidly connected thereto and firmly fastened on a circular base-plate F, extending the entire length of the block and mounted to turn on a vertical axis in a circular guideway or recess f, formed in the upper face of the table, this arrangement permitting the block to be turned on a vertical axis in a horizontal plane, so that the article to be ironed may be presented to the roller in' different positions. By extending the baseform of my invention.
plate the entire length of the block the latter is afforded an extended support, so that there will be little or no liability of the block tipping. This insures the article to be ironed being presented to the roller at all times in a truly horizontal position, by reason of which the pressure of the article will be uniform at every point.
In Figs. 4 and 5 I have shown a modified Here it will be seen that instead of forming a recess in the table to receive the circular base-plate the latter is seated in a circular socket formed by a ring G, fixed on the upper side of the table. It will also be seen that the circular base-plate is provided at its center, in its under side, with a socket receiving a vertical pivot-pin g, projectin'g upward from the table. This pin serves to assist in guiding the plate in its rotation, effectually preventing the same from binding or sticking in its socket.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In an ironing-machine the combination with an ironing device B and a reciprocating table movable thereunder, of an ironing-block and a circular base-plate extending the length of the block on which the latter is secured, said table being provided with a circular guideway in which the base-plate is seated to rotate.
2. In an ironing-machine the combination with an ironing device B and a reciprocating table movable thereunder and provided with a circular guideway, of an ironing-block, a circular base-plate on which it is fixed, said base-plate being mounted in the guideway of the table, and a central pivot-pin g on which the base-plate is mounted to turn at its center.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing.
witnesses.
S. H. SEKIAN.
