FLOOR-DRESSER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,464, dated February 14, 1899.

Be it known that I, LOUIs A. BAUMANN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Wheeling, county of Ohio, State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floor-Dressers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in floor-dressers, and has for its object to construct a device whereby an even and smooth surface on a floor may be accomplished.

A further object of myinvention is to construct a device that may be moved over the surface of the floor in any desired direction 7 and may be adjusted to any position near to or away from the floor.

In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like figures of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved floor-dresser. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the cutter-head. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of a head for holding sandpaper. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line a; at, Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the frame, which is substantially triangular in shape and is provided with rollers 2 of any ordinary form.

10 and 15 is an endless belt 20. Secured to the frame 3 are hooks 21, of any desired. shape, to which are secured stay-wires 22. The opposite end of said stay- Wires are secured to a similar hook 23, car ried by the frame 4, said stay-wires serving to prevent lateral motion of the frame.

In Figs. 3 and 4 I have shown a modified head to which sandpaper is secured, whereby a smooth surface is given to the floor, and it consists of a disk 24, provided on its top face with a projecting flange 25, adapted to be secured to the shaft 9. Engaging the periphery of said disk is a split ring 26, and between which and the periphery of the disk 24 the sandpaper is adapted to be secured. Said split ring is secured in position by means of a bolt 27, passing through a lug formed on the ends of said ring.

The operation of the device is apparent from the drawings and the description.

It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of my invention.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a device of the character described, a base-frame, a second frame having its end extending beyond the end of the base-frame, a frame above and corresponding with the second frame, brace-wires between the two upper frames, a shaft mounted in the ends of the two upper frames and depending therefrom in front of the base-frame, a cutter-head on the shaft, cranked rods threaded in aper-,

tures of the upper and mounted in the baseframe, rollers on the ends of the rods, said rods being adapted to hold the frames in the same relative position while the base-frame is being adjusted with relation to the floor and means for driving the shaft, as and for the purpose described.
