Maeda;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CYRIL GEORGE HUTCHINSON, OF BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND.
BICYCLE-BELL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 618,985, dated Februar-51"?, 1899. Application filed December 27, 1897. Serial No. 663,709. (No model.)
To all whom, if nitty concern.'
Be it known that I, CYRIL GEORGE HUTcH- INsoN, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of Broadway House, Five vWays, Edgbaston, in the city of Birmingham, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements Relating to Alarm-Bells for Cycles and Like Vehicles, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 15,275, bearing date July 9, 1896,) of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention consists of improvements relating to alarm-bells for cycles and like vehicles, my object being to arrange simple and effective mechanism between a rotatable handle and the bell in such a manner that the latter can be readily sounded on the imparting of a rotating movement to the handle.
The accompanying drawing is a sectional View illustrating a rotatable cycle-handle and an alarm-bell with the connecting and actul ating mechanism between such parts as arranged in accordance with my invention.
Upon the end of the cycle handle-bar B, I fix the clip-socket M, such socket M having a retaining-flange J formed upon or attached to its outer extremity to prevent detachmentof the handle-tube C, which is free to be revolved or rotated upon the socket M.
The bevel-wheel D, which is formed upon or rigidly attached to the inner end of the handle-tube C,;is arranged to engage with the ers H, carried upon pins H on the extremities of the striker-arms H2, the bell, striker-arms,-
and strikers being of the ordinary or any desired construction.
The handle grip part K is formed of any suitable substance and is aflixed to the handle-tube C in any ordinary manner. On turning or rotating the handle the movement is transmitted by means of the gear described to the hammers H, which are thus caused to strike the bell.
Having thus described my invention, I de clare that what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Thecombination with a rotatable cycle handle-tube C having a bevel-wheel D integral with its inner end engaging the actuating-gear of the bell L, of the socket M secured to the handle-bar B and having a handle-retaining flange integral with its outer end, as set forth.
In Witness whereof Ithave hereunto set my hand in presence of two Witnesses.
CYRIL GEORGE HUTCHINSON.
