GEORGE .1 EEED, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS. Letters PatentNo. 61,867, dated February 5, 1867.
ttlge gtlgctule return: tu'in flgese Eiders new nut mEthanntttthesnmc. i i g TO ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL OOHE:
13c it known that I, GEORG'E P. REED, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have made a new and useful invention having reference to the Regulator of a \Vatch or Time-Piece, and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawing, which is a top view of it.
The nature ofsuch invention consists in the application of an adjusting screw and spring to the index lover of a common watch-regulator, substantially in manner as hereinafter described and as exhibited in such drawing, suoli being for efiecting a nicer adjustment of such lever.
In the. drawing, a denotes the index lever usually applied to the hair-spring of a Watch-regulator, I; being its support-plate or carrier, which generally is provided with an arc of divisions, To this support-plate, and on one side of the longer arm. of the lever a, a piece of metal, a, is fastened so as to project upward from the plate. From this piece of metal a spring, d, extends and is curved around the free end of the said longer arm so as to bear against the opposite side thereof. A screw, 2, is screwed through the piece 0 and against the said longer arm of the lever a. Thus, it will be seen that the screw and spring operate on opposite sides of the arm, one to impel it in one and the other to move it in the other direction. As the screw, While being screwed up, advances the lever arm, the spring will be correspondingly moved, and both will hold the arm firmly in position. On turning the screw hack the spring will force the arm towardthe screw. Thus, by simply revolving the screw in either direction, we are enabled to effect a movement of the regulating lever and to adjust the said levcr with great. precision.
I claim the combination of an adjusting screw and spring with the index lcvcr of a common watch-regulator,
I substantially in manner and so as to operate such lever as specified.
