SAMUELRV. BARR, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE BARR CASH AND PACKAGE CARRIER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
STOP MECHANISM FOR STORE-SERVICE APPARATUS.
SPEGIFICATION'forming part of Letters Patent No. 615,338, dated December 6, 1898.
Application filed June 4, 1898. Serial Not 682,585. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that- I, SAMUEL W. BARR, of Mansfield,in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Stop Mechanism for Store-Service Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in stop mechanism for store-service apparatus, and more particularly for use on doublewire lines, the object being to provide a simple and effective device for yieldingly stopping the car or carrier at the station.
With this end in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a View of my improvement in its operative position on a double-line wire. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the slide, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detached view of the buffer.
A represents a hanger provided at its lower end with a laterally-projecting arm 2 and at its upper end with a similar arm 3, which latter is preferably removably secured to said hanger. To the outer ends of these arms is connected a guide-rod 4:, on which latter a slide 5 is adapted to move. This slide 5 is provided near its inner lower end with an antifriction-roller 6-, while its opposite lower end is connected with the propelling trackwire 7. The upper inner end of said slide is connected to one end of the operating-cord 8, which latter passes over a pulley 9, mounted in a recess formed in hanger A near its upper end and terminating at a convenient point below the laterally-projecting arm 2.
B represents a buffer comprising a frame 10, a pair of arms 14., depending from said frame, each of said arms being provided with a bearing 11, a stop-rod 12, mounted to slide in said bearings, said rod being provided with a head 13, having a yielding plug 15 located therein, and a coil-spring 16, mounted on said stop-rod for the purpose of controlling its movement. This spring is of considerable length and resilience and encircles that portion of the stop-rod located between the rear end of head 13 and the adjacent arm 14.
The buffer above described is supported by the arm 2 and the stationary track-wire 17, the connection being effected in the manner shown.
In the drawings I have shown but one station; but it is my intention to employ the stop mechanism at each end of the line, and when so applied it will be apparent that when the car or carrier arrives at either end of the line it will be cushioned and brought to a stop without imparting a serious pounding to car or carrier. As soon as the car or carrier strikes the end of stop-rod 12 the spring 16 will be immediately contracted and allow said stop-rod to move rearwardly until the force of the car is overcome, after which the spring will gradually expand to its normal position, carrying with it the stop-rod and the car or carrier. The forward movement of the stoprod is limitedby the pin 18.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 18-- 1. In a double-wire cash-carrier apparatus, the combination with a fixed support and a movable track vire connected therewith, of a frame attached at one end directly to the lower end of said support, a fixed track-wire attached to the other end of said frame and a yielding stop-rod mounted to slide in said frame, substantially as set forth.
2.The combination with a supporting device, a lower or stationary wire secured to said supporting device, a vertically-movable slide on the supporting device, an upper or movable propelling track-wire attached to said slide and a car having wheels between which said track-wires pass, of a yielding stop-rod connected with the said supporting device in line of travel of the car, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL W. BARR.
