PICKER-STICK ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 61 5,220, dated November 29, 1898. ,Application filed December 1, 1897. Serial No. 660,423. '(No model.)
To all whom, t may con/cern.'
Beit known that I, FRANCIS M. HUToHIsoN, of Mayfield, in the county of Graves and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Picker-Stick Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to looms; and its object is to provide a new and improved pickerstick attachment forming a fulcrum Vfor the stick and a fastening for the return-strap, the attachment permitting of convenient insertion and adjustment of the picker-stick Without weakening the stick by holes, recesses, f&c.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective View of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation ofthe improvement. Fig. is a transverse section of the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a sectional plan View of the same on the line 4 i of Fig. 2.
The lower end of the picker stick adapted to pass into a casing B, open at the top and bottom, as is plainly shown in the drawings, the inner end of the picker-stick resting against the inner side of the casing and the outer edge being engaged by a clamping-plate C, adapted to be forced against the stick by set-screws D, screwing in the outer side of the casing B. The clamping-plate C is provided with laterally-extending trun`V nions C', fitting loosely in horizontally-extending guideways B', formed in the front and rear of the casing B, so as to hold the plate C from falling out of the casing and at the same time permit longitudinal movement of the plate to engage the same with the pickerstick when screwing up the set-screws D, as previously described.
On the inner face of the clamping-plate C are formed lugs or projections C2, and similarv projections B2 are formed on the inner surface of the inner side of the casing B, the said lugs C2 and B2 being adapted to embed themselves A isk the said pivot-pin E as the fulcrum.
On the lower edge of the casing B and at the inside thereof is formed integrally a loop G, through which passes a return-strap I-I,
hooked upon a hook I, formed integrally on 65 Vthe inner side of the casing B directly above the loop G, as shown.. The other or inner end of the return-strap I-l isiattached in the usual manner to the frame of the loom. The pickerstick A is connected in the usual manner with a sweep-stick J above the casing B, as indicated in the drawings.
Now it Will be seen that by the arrangement described the picker-stick A can be readily inserted into the casing B and fastened therein after the desired adjustment is made-*that is, when the upper end of the picker-stick is in proper relation to the raceway and shuttle of the. loom. It is further evident that when the picker-stick becomes worn atv its upper end it can be raised in the casing B to compensate for the wear, thus lengthening the life of a picker-stick to a considerable extent. It will further be seen that the adjustment is very simple and durable in construction, is
not liable to get out of order, is readily attached to any loom, and permits of convenient insertion and removal of the picker-stick whenever desired.
By the arrangement described the work of the loom-fixer is considerably reduced.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A picker-stick attachment comprising a casing mounted to swing, a picker-stick adj ustable in the casing, a clamping-plate adapted to engage the picker-stick, a loop on the casing for the passage of a return-strap and a hook for engaging the end of the returnstrap, substantially as described.
2. A picker-stick attachment comprising a IOO casing mounted to swing and adapted to receive a picker-stick, the said casing bein g provided with longitudinally-extending guide- Ways formed in its front and rear, a clamping-plate held in the said casing and adapted to engage the picker-stick, the said clampingplate being provided with laterally-extending trunnions loosely engaging the said guide- Ways in the front and rear of the said casing, and means for moving the clamping-plate against the picker-stick, substantially as set forth.
3. A picker-stick attachment comprising a easing adapted to receive a picker-stick and having an apertured lug by which the said easing is mounted to swing, the inner side of the said casing on its inner surface being provided With lugs or projections, the said casin g having longitudinally-extending guideways formed in its front and rear, a clampingplate held in the said easing and provided on its inner face with projections or lugs, the said clamping-plate being also provided with laterally-extending trunnions loosely engaging the guideways in the casing, and means for moving the clamping-plate against the picker-stick, as set forth.
4. A picker-stick attachment pro vided With a pivoted casing adapted to receive a pickerstick, a loop formed on the said casing for the passage of a return-strap, and a hook formed on the casing above the said loop, to receive the outer end of the said return-strap, substantially as shown and described.
5. A picker-stick attachment provided with a pivoted easing open at the top and bottom and adapted to receive a picker-stick, means for clamping the picker-stick in place in the casing, a loop formed on the said casing for the passage of a return-strap, and a hook formed on the casing above the said loop to receive the outer end of the said return-strap, substantially as shown and described.
G. A picker-stick attachment comprising a casing constructed to receive a picker-stick, the said casing'being provided with an apertured lug, a rocker-arm, a pivot pin or bolt carried by the rocker-arm and adapted to engage the said apertured lug, a loop formed ou the lower end of the casing and below the said apertured lu g for the passage of a returnstrap, and a hook formed on the casing and located between the said loop and aperturod lug to receive the end of the said returnstrap, substantially as shown and described.
