UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK C. SCHRADER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO IMPERIAL METAL 00., OF SAME PLACE.
SPRAY'ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 613,321, dated November 1, 1898.
Application filed April 9, 1897. serial No. 631,3 85. (N0 model.)
To ail whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, FRANK C. SCHRADER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sprayers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to Sprayers; and it consists of an improved construction of the top therefor and its adjuncts, whereby I am enabled to equip sprayers so that they can be readily transported without liability of leakage of the contents thereof.
It further consists of novel details of construction, all as will be hereinafter set forth, and fully pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a sprayer embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view through the upper portion or head thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a portion of a sprayer, and B a portion of the bottle or receptacle, upon which the top or head B is supported, said head having a passage D therein, in which is located the conduit E, the latter discharging at the point F through the branch outlet 0.
G designates a cap adapted to be screwed upon said outlet branch when desired.
H designates a port or bore leading from the passage D into the recess or chamber G, which latter is located in the branch J.
K designates a collar or neck adapted to be screwed into the recess or chamber G and having the port or bore L therethrough, which normally communicates with the port H, the head of said neck supporting the bulb N.
M designates a plug or stopper which is adapted to be screwed into the port L of the collar or neck K, a portion of the outlet end of said plug being located in the chamber G.
N designatesa bulb or ball which is adapted to be compressed to operate the sprayer, the same having an opening in its wall, the adsired to equip the sprayer for transportation,
the cap G and plug M are screwed into the position shown in Fig. 2, from which it will be evident that none of the contents of the receptacle D can escape, no matter in What position the sprayer may be, said plug or stopper M being concealed, covered, and protected within the chamber G. When it is desired to adjust the sprayer for use, it is only necessary to unscrew the collar K, which can be done by properly manipulating it, the bulb N remaining on the head of said collar. This uncovers or exposes the plug or stopper M, and the latter is removed, after which the collar or neck K is restored to position, when the sprayer may be operated by the compression of the bulb or ball N, as usual in articles of the kind.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The head B with the vertical passage D therein, the branches 0 and J radiating therefrom, the tube E passing through said passage D and the branch 0, the branch J having the bore H therein communicating with said pas= sage D and the chamber G communicating with said bore H, the collar K removably connected with the wall of said chamber G and having a bore communicating with the bore H, a bulb carried on the outer end of said collar and clamped between the cap of said collar and the adjacent end of the branch J, the screwcap G on the branch 0 and the screw-stopper M on the collar K within said chamber G, said parts being combined forming an im* provement in sprayers.
FRANK O. SCHRADER.
