I lllllllllllllllllll nmuuu UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN D. SMITH, OF POND HILL, PENNSYLVANIA.
lRONlNG-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 612,935, dated October 25, 1898. Application filed February 18,1898. Serial No. 670,838. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that 1, JOHN D. SMITH, a citizen of the United States,residing at Pond Hill, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Ironing-Tables andl do declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in ironing-tables; and it has for its object the provision of a simple, inexpensive, and serviceable ironing-board which may be readily folded within a small compass for the purpose of storage or transportation and which may be readily thrown into position for use.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists, further, in the novel construction, combination,
and adaptation of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part 'of this specification.
forming the contracted portion 0, which is adapted to engage in one of the said notches to hold the table open. The shoulders at each end of the contracted portion in the said cross-piece 0 form guides whereby the brace B is prevented from a lateral movement, as will be understood. The upper round A between two of the legs has pivoted thereto the larger ironing-board E and the smaller ironin g-board E, which latterhas secured to its end an elongated hinge-strip F, through which the said round passes, the large ironing-board having ears E with apertures in which the round is mounted. When the board E is ad: justed for use in ironing, its swinging end rests on the free end of the smaller board heneath. It will be observed that the pivoted end of the large board is cut away, as at E so as to allow the board to fold back into a horizontal position without interference with I the edges of the legs when it is swung back so as to utilize the smaller board.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In an ironing-table, the combination with the legs pivoted together and provided with an adjustable brace mechanism as set forth, of the round A and A mounted between the upper ends of said legs, the board F, the hinge member F secured thereto and journaled on said round A and the board E, recessed away as at E and having ears E, through which the round A passes, all as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN D. SMITH.
