T0 at whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LEMUEL T. COOK, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Hamilton and State of Indiana, have invented a new WVashboiler-Strainer, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates generally to washboilers, and particularly to a strainer adapted for use in connection with this washboiler.

The object of my invention is to provide a strainer for washboilers simple in construction and one that can be manufactured an sold at a slight figure.

The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangements and combinations of parts more fully described hereinafter, and pointed out particularly in the claim.

In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 isa view in perspective of my improved device in operative position. Fig. 2 is a top plan thereof. Fig. 3 is a sectional view. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the pivoted supporting-lugs carried by the strainer for engaging the walls of the vessel to which it is attached. Fig. 5is a sectional detail view showing said lugs in engagement with the walls of the vessel to which the strainer is attached. 7

In carrying out my invention I employ an ordinary clothes-boiler A, and, as shown in Fig. 1, it is shown as resting on a stove, with the strainer resting on a top portion thereof. This strainer is preferably composed of wire or galvanized iron and comprises an approximately rectangular-shaped frame carrying at each end a bail or handle O, loosely connected to the ends of each side bar or frame of the strainer proper. On the exterior or upper portion of this rectangular frame are formed a series of loops D, some in an open position and some being closed, but all formed and bent from a continuous piece of wire forming the strainer within the space between the handles or bails, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. 1

Each end loop of the strainer is provided with ears I, betweenwhioh are pivoted the supporting-lugs H, said lugs being adapted to be spread out and rested upon the top edges of the washboiler for the purpose of supporting the strainer when raised out of the boiler. These lugs of course fold in when the strainer is lowered.

In operation the strainer is placed within a boiler andthe clothes placed thereon. The weight of the articles within the boiler will naturally lower the strainer, allowing the clothes to rest on the same, while the handles or bails C will be within reaching distance of the operator, as the same will be so constructed as to extend to a point near the upper edges of the boiler, so that the handles or bails can be grasped and the clothes drained without any danger to the operator. The same remarks apply to the construction shown in Fig. 6; but instead of employing the loops a perforated draining-pan is brought into use.

The invention is very simple in construction and composed of a minimum number of parts, and it isevident that various slight changes might be made in the forms and constructions of the parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth, but consider myself entitled to all such changes as fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having thus fully described myinvention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

A strainer for a washboiler, consisting of a frame composed of two parallel longitudinal bars successively crossed by a wire secured thereon, ears carried by said wire at the re spective corners of the frame, lugs pivotally mounted in said ears and adapted to support said frame upon the upper edge of the boiler, and handles pivoted to the ends of said bars at each end of the frame for lifting said frame, substantially as shown and described.
