SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 606,475, dated June 28,1898.
Application filed February 10,1897. Serial No. 622,883. T0 a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL PSKS, a subject of the King of Austria-Hungary, residing at Kisujszallas, Austi-a-IIungary, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Sowing Maize and l the Like, (for which I have obtained patents in Hungary, dated June 6, 1896, No. L1,599; in France, dated June 29,1896,No. 245,081; in Belgium,
dated June 12, 1896, No. 98,878; in Italy,n
dated June 22,1896, No. 18,618; in Great Britain, dated June 12, 1896, No. 13,009; in Austria, dated June 25, 1896, No. 16/2,808, and in Spain, dated July11, 1896, No. 19,324,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in corn-planters which are attachable to a plow and operate by the movement obtained from the plow and which automatically drop the grains continuously or at intervals, as may be desired by the operator, into the furrow made by the plow. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, lin which-J Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my machine. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the seeder R, and Fig. l is an edge View of the feed-wheel.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
B is an upright carrying seedboX. L
F, G, and Y are sections of the seedbox.
fand g are separating-walls in the seedbox.
D is the discharging-tube.
C is a tube connecting with D.
Y isa chamber.
' N is the ground-wheel.
dis a projection from the seedbox, to which tube D is attached.
In the construction of my improved corn lplanter or seeder I use an upper seedbox fastened to the upright B, divided into three compartments F, G, and Y by movable slides or partitions f and g, fastened tothe sides of the compartments. 'Io the third compartment Y, I fasten a rotary pipe D, and on this is arranged a seeding or delivery pipe C, fastened to the plow and movable up and down by means of an iron arm or bracket fastened by means of a stirrup.
The device is attached to the plow-handle by the strap P and by means of the iron arm c from therotary pipe D to the colter, by which` it is fastened vertically to the plow, with the wheel N supporting thedevice on the ground. The first compartmentF of theseedboXs filled with corn, the slide f being previously placed in a position to prevent the corn entering the second compartment G too rapidly. When'the plow is set in motion, drawing with it the planting device, the wheel N rotates, and by means of the chain-gearing 0 rotates the feeding-wheel R, which, by means of a feed-cup, takes the corn falling through from the first compartment F, carries it, one grain at a time, (or grain by grain,) to theopening of the next compartment G, and allows it to be distributed continuously or at intervals into the furrow through the rotary pipe and the delivery-pipe C, which is an extension thereof and movable thereon. The cover and sides of the device may be opened to control the working of the machine. In the operation of the planter the construction permits the distribution of the corncontinuously or at intervals, as may be desired.
Having thus described my device, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a corn-planter attachment to Vplows the combination of a seedbox on an upright supl ported by a wheel running with the plow and attached thereto, divided into three chambers by movable sliding partitions, and containing a feeding-wheel conveying thecorn from the second to the third chamber from which the corn is discharged through a rotary pipe and delivery-tube into the furrowmotion being obtained by means of a chain-gearing engaging with the supporting-wheel as and for the purpose above specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signedmy name in presn ence of two subscribing Witnesses.
KARL PsKs.
