No. 606,242. Patented June 28,1898..

ANDREV REIFSNYDER, OF MARCUS HOK, PENNSYLVANIA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 606,242, dated June 28, 1898.
Application filed May 20, 1897. Serial No. 63 7,357. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t may con/067171,: A
Be it known that I, ANDREW REIFSNYDER, of Marcus Hook, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to plows; and it consists, essentially, of a moldboard having an adjustable member and an elongated adjustable plow-point, both of the adjustable parts being held by a single clamp or retaining device.
The invention further consists of the details of construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to simplify the construction and arrangement of plows by the use of a single holding device for an adjustable plow-point and an adjustable cutting edge for the moldboard, the same being adapted to be applied to plows now in use without unnecessary manipulation or change of construction of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a plow embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the plowshare reversed. Fig. 3 is a section on the line fr al, Fig. l, shown on an enlarged scale. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the holding device for the adjustable part-s.
Referring to the drawings, wherein similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views, the numeral l designates the plow proper, having a moldboard 2, a standard 3, and a landside 4. v board is formed with a slot 5, and 4therethrough adj ustably projects a share 6, having its front edge sharpened, as at 7. The said share 6 is held in position by a guide S on the rear surface of the moldboard, and on the lower inner edge of the landside is located an inclined guide 9, on which is adjustably mounted an extended plow-point l0, consisting of a hard-metal bar with an outer tapered end ll. This plow-point is adjustable through a portion of the slot 5 in the moldboard 2, and
the said point and plate 6 are arranged atan angle to each other and held in their adj usted position by a single clamping device consist- The lower front edge of the moldl in g of a substantially triangular plate l2, havfor the passage of a securing-bolt 14.-, having a nut l5 thereon bearing against the one side side of the latter, while a flat face 16 of the said plate V12 contacts with one side of the point l0. The plate 12 is located near the entrance end of the plowshare in the reduced angle formed by the parts thereof coming together at the front, and by simply loosening the nut l5 on the bolt la the said plate l2 is released from clamping contact with the plate 6 and point l0 to permit an adjustment of either one of the said parts. The arrangement of the plate l2 also dispenses with the formation of bolt-holes in the said plate and point l0 and also with the use of other fastening devices for said parts.
It is obviously apparent that many minor changes in the details of construction and arrangement of the several parts might be made and substituted for those shown and described without in the least departing from the nature or spirit ofthe invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new isl. In a plow, the combination of a moldboard having a guide thereon and a slot at the lower portion thereof, a landside with an elongated guide having an upper beveled edge, an adjustable plate engaging the guide and thev Inoldboard and projecting through the slot thereof, an elongated plow-point held on the beveled edge of the guide on the landside, and a single clamping-plate for holding the said parts in their adjusted position, substantially as and for the purposes specified'.
2. In a plow, the combination of a moldboard having an adjustable share, an adjustable plow-point, and a triangular clampingplate enga'ging said devices and forming the sole means of securing them in an adjusted position, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. v
