Be it known that I, JOHN T. VATTS, residing at Golden, in the vcounty of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Weather-Strip, of which the following is a specification.

This invent-ion has relation to certain improvements in weather-strips.

An object of the invention is to 4provide a weather-stripto be carried by a door, so that when the door is closed there will be no possibility of water, wind, itc., entering the room through the space between the lower edges of the door and sill. v

A further object of the .invention is to provide a weather-strip for doors whereby when the door is closed the strip will beheld in a locked position until the same is againopened.

A further object of vthe invention is to provide a weather-strip simple in construction and composed of a minimum number Of strong and inexpensive parts.

With these Vand other objects in view the rinvention consists in certain novel features of construction and in combinations and arrangements of parts, as will. be more fully described hereinafter and specically pointed out in the claim.

From' the foregoing description it will be seen that I have produced an exceedingly cheap and simple construction of weatherstrip, automatic in action, and one that can be ,attached to or removed from a door-inan easy manner. While I have described my device as being particularly Vadapted for use in connection with doors, it will ofcourse be understood that I do not care to limit myself to such particular use, as the construction might be advantageously used in other places.

Various slight changes might be'made'in the forms, constructions, A and arrangements of the parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Hence I do not care to limit myselfto the exact con- IOO struction herein set forth, but clearly consider myself entitled to all such slight changes that may fall within the range ot' my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot the TJnited States, is-

In a weather-strip, the combination wit-h a stationary section, having a securing-face by means of which it is attached to the door, an intermediate portion inclined outwardly and downwardly from the securing portion, a downwardly-eitending stop member, a movable section having inner end bent at an angle to form an attaching` portion, hinges cured to the outer surface of the attaching portion, and to the under side of the intermediate portion of the stationary section, whereby said sections are hinged together, said ati aching` portion adapted to abut against the stop member when the door is open, a spring-rod having` its end bent at an angle and extending` in reverse directions, one of said angular ends being secured to the under side of the intermediate portion of the stationary section adjacent one end of the weather-strip, and the opposite angular end secured to the underside of the movable section adjacent the opposite end of the strip, of an angular stop plate secured to the door-'frame and adapted to be engaged by the movable seetion of the weather-strip, whereby saidsection is held in engagement with the door-sill when the door is closed, substantially as described.
