SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters iatent No. 605,222, dated June *7, 1898. :Application filed August 16, 1897. Serial No. 648,854. (No modelx) To all, whom, it may concern: portion of the bottom I). At or near the front Beitknown that I, ALFRED GARTNER, acitiportion of each side of said cabinet is an. in zen of the United States, residing in Paterson, wardly-projecting stud g, engaging its respeccounty of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, tive radial slot in the metallic arc-shaped link 55 have invented certain new and useful Irnf, the front portion of which is secured to the provements in Exhibiting-Cabinets; and I do hinged door 0, while its rear portion is adapthereby declare the following to beafulhclear, ed to limit the downward movement of said and exact description of the invention, such hinged door when the latter is being opened. as will enable others skilled in the art to which Within the cabinet are arranged, one above 60 it appertains to make and use the same, refthe other, a series of trays or drawers 0 0 o 0 erence beinghad to the accompanying'draweach of which, except the bottom one, is'proings, and to letters of reference marked therevided with downwardly 7 extending legs or on, which form a part of this specification. braces 76, m, and n, respectively, having their My invention relates to improvements in lowerends enlarged,as at 7t,m',and n, which 65 I 5 wall-cabinets, bureaus, or other cabinet furenlargements are arranged in a horizontal niture for exhibiting merchandise or other groove 1;, situated in' the bottom I) of the cabiarticles, and which cabinet furniture is pronet and communicating and in alinement vided with aseries ofdrawers. with a groove h, arranged in the hinged front The object of my present invention is to or door 0. 7o
provide a cabinet article of the character The top drawerois provided at each side and above referred to with a series of drawers atornearitsrearupperportionwithahorizonwhich can be opened simultaneously by oper tal pin a, adapted to engage a downwardly-exating one of said drawers, thus exhibiting the tending pin t, projecting from the top of said articles contained in all of said drawersatone cabinet and adapted to limit the outward 75 and the same time, of simple, strong, and dumovement of said drawer 0. The side porrable construction, reliable in operation, and tions of adjoining drawers are connected to easily handled. gether by links in the following manner: A
The invention consists in' the improved link a" is pivotally secured, as at T 'to the rear cabinet article combining a series of separate central portion of the side of the drawer 0, its 80 3o trays or drawers, in the means for connecting free end being pivotally connected, as at r and supporting said trays or drawers, and in to a link 9 in turn pivotally connected, as at the combination and arrangements of the va- T with its other end to the upper rear por rious parts thereof, substantially as will be tion of the drawer o. A linkr is pivotally hereinafter more fully described, and finally secured, as at T to the central front portion 85 embodied in the clauses of the claim. j of the side of the drawer 0, its free end being 7 Referring to the accompanying drawings, pivotally connected, as at T with the link a", in which like letters of reference indicate'corthe other end'of which "is pivotally secured, responding parts in each of the several views, as at T to the upper front portion of the side Figure l is a side elevation of a drawer-cabiof the drawer o. 9
0 net .provided with my improvements, certain It must be remarked that the angles formed portions of the cabinet being broken away to by the links 1" r" and r r point toward each better illustrate the nature of my said inven other when the cabinet is closed, and, further, tion, said 'Fig. 1 also illustrating in dotted that the pin 3, projecting from the side of the lines the position of the door and drawers drawer, is adapted to form a rest or stop for 9 5 when opened; Fig. 2, a sectionalview on the the link a" when the drawers are-opened, and lines a: w of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a sectional view thus permit said links from'further opening of the linesy y of Fig. l. and passing a dead-centenwhereby the clos-.
In said drawings, CL represents a cabinet, 1) ing of tlie links and drawers is greatly faciliits bottom, and c the front or vdoor thereof, tated. I00 which latter is provided with a suitable knob The bottom drawer o is provided at or near or handle cl and is hinged, as at e, to the front its rear-portion with a downwardly-proj ectin g knob n in engagement with the groove 2' of the bottom I; of the cabinet, and is adapted to slide in the groove h of the hinged front or door when said drawer is pulled outward, and thus serves as a guide for said drawer, the same as the enlargements 7a, m, and n of the legs 70, m, and n, respectively, serve as guides for said legs, as will be manifest.
Additional strength can be given to the drawers by providing the top portions of the sides of each drawer with elongated flaring tenons adapted to fit correspondingly-shaped elongated grooves arranged in the lower portions of the sides of the next preceding drawer and to slide therein when the drawers are'be: ing operated.
It will be manifest that cabinet articles such as wall-cabinets, bureaus, show-eases, &c. constructed as heretofore described greatly facilitate the exhibiting of goods, merchandise, the, and thus furnish convenient and useful cabinet articles for stores, offices, &c., and reduce the time and labor required in handling said goods and articles.
It will be manifest that a similar arrangement of parts can be used for trunks, shelves, closets, and the like, and I-therefore do not intend to limit myself to the construction shown and described; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv
l. The combination with a cabinet, of a door or front hinged to the front portion of the bottom of said cabinet, a series of drawers in. said cabinet, means for pivotally connecting said drawers, a leg downwardly projecting from the rear portion of each drawer, a pin inwardly projecting from the front portion of each side of the cabinet, and a slotted arc-shaped link engaging its respective pin and secured with its forward end to the hinged front or door, substantially as described.
2; The combination with a cabin-ct, of a door or front hinged to the front portion of the bottom of said cabinet, a series of drawers in said cabinet, means for pivotally connecting said drawers, a leg downwardly projecting from the rear portion of each drawer, a pin inwardly projecting from the front por- 5 tion of each side of the cabinet, a slotted areshaped link engaging its respective pin and secured with its forward end. to the hinged front or door, and means carried by one of said drawers and by the cabinet respectively for preventing the entire withdrawal of the drawers from the cabinet, substantially as described.
3. The combination-with a cabinet, having its bottom provided with a central groove or recess, of a door or front hinged to the front portion of said bottom and provided with a groove or recess communicating and in alinement with the groove or recess in said bottom, a series of drawers in said cabinet, means for pivotally connecting said drawers, a leg downwardly projecting from the rear portion of each drawer and provided at its lower end with an enlargement engaging the groove or recess in the bottom of the cabinet, a pin inwardly projecting from the front portion of each side of the cabinet, a slotted arc-shaped link engaging its respective pin and secured with its forward end to the hinged front or door, and means carried by one of said drawers and by the cabinet respectively for preventing the entire withdrawal of the drawers from said cabinet, substantially as described.
4. The combination with a cabinet having its bottom provided with a central groove or recess, of a door or front hinged to the front portion of said bottom and provided with a groove or recess communicating and in alinement with the groove or recess in said bottom, a series of drawers in said cabinet, means for pivotally connecting said drawers, a leg downwardly projecting from the rear portion of each drawer and provided at its lower end with an enlargement engaging the groove or recess in the bottom of the cabinet, a pin inwardly projecting from the front portion of each side of the cabinet, and a slotted areshaped link engaging itsrespective pin and secured with its forward end to the hinged front or door, substantially as described.
