UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS SIEGFRIED, OF EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
PRESS-BOARD HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 602,708, dated April 19, 1898.
Application filed August 6,1897. Serial No. 647,336. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS SIEGFRIED, of Easton, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Press-Board Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to devices for supporting a press-board on a table or the like; and the object is to provideaholder by means of which the board may be swung horizontally and also vertically and fastened at any desired angle, thus facilitating the operation of ironing.
I will describe a press-board embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in whichsimilar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a press-board and a holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view and a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the board as turned downward when not in use.
The holder comprises a clamp consisting of jaw 1, arm 2, and a clamping-screw 3. The jaw 1 is designed to engage over the upper portion of a table-top or the like, and the screw 3 is designed to engage underneath the same, the said screw passing through a tapped hole in the arm 2.
Mounted to rotate and also to move vertically in the head portion 4 of the clamp is a post 5. The upper end of the post 5 is pivotally connected to lugs 6, extended downward from a plate 7, designed to be secured to the under side of the press-board 8. Movable on the post 5 is a collar 9, from a lug on which a link 10 extends to a pivotal connection with a lug 11, depending from the plate 7. Engaging in a tapped hole in the collar 9 and designed to impinge against the post 5 is a thumb-screw 12, designed to hold the collar in its adjusted position on the post, and thus support the board 8 horizontally or at any desired angle. It is obvious that by moving the collar 9 upward on the post the free end of the board 8 will be swung downward.
On the top of the head portion of the clamp is a clutch-section 13, designed to be engaged by a clutch-section 14: on the post 5. By this construction by moving the board around on substantially a horizontal plane the cam or toothed surfaces of the clutch-section 14 will ride upon similar teeth of the clutch-section l3 and pass over the same. Then, after again falling into engagement, the board will be held yieldingly in a desired position. post will be prevented from being wholly removed from the clamp-head by means of a pin 15, extended through the post below said clamp-head.
As shown in Fig. 3, the board may be turned to a vertical position when not in use, and therefore it will not form an obstruction, as would be the case were it extended outward from the table.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination with a press-board, of
' a clamp, a post mounted to rotate and to move The clutch-section on the clamp and a toothed clutch-section on the post adapted for engagement with the first-named clutch-section, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with a press-board, of a clamp, a post mounted to rotate and to move vertically in said clamp, the board being pivotally attached to the upper end of the post so as to swing vertically, a clutch-section on the clamp, a clutch-section on the post, acollar vertically adjustable on the post, means for holding the collar as adjusted, and a link connection between said collar and the board, substantially as specified.
3. A press board holder, comprising a clamp, a post mounted to rotate and to move longitudinally in said clamp, a clutch-section on the clamp, a clutch-section on the post, adapted to engage with the first-named clutchsection, a collar movable verticallyon the post, means for securing the collar as adjusted, a plate pivotally connected to the upper end of the post, and a link connection between the collar and plate, substantially as Specified.
. LOUIS SI'EGFRIED. Witnesses:
