CHARLES E. ROBERTS, OF OAK PARK," ILLINOIS.
TOOL FOR DRESSING EMERY -WHEELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters.Patent N0. 602,1Q6, dated April 12, 1898. Application filed A t 12,1897. Serial No. 647,999. (No model.)
. Park, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tools for Dressing Emery-Wheels,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tools for dressing and truing emery-wheels. It belongs to that class of such devices generally known as the Huntington dressers, and consisting of a series .of disks loosely journaled upon a common shaft or pivot and some or all provided with peripheral spurs and supported in the end of a handle, whereby the disks may be held up against the wheel to be dressed.
My object in the invention is to produce a tool whereby emery-wheels can be dressed with greater rapidity and with better results than heretofore. To this end I provide the tool with two sets of dressers so arranged thereon that both may be brought to bear upon the same part of the wheel at the same time, one set being thus adapted to remove any imperfections in the work done by the other. One set of the dressers may also vary from the other in character or in the relative positioning of the plain rim-disks or in the fine ness of the teeth used upon the spur-disks.
The nature of the, invention is fully set forth below and is also disclosed'in the accompanying drawings, in which latter Figure 1 is a side, Fig. 2 an edge, and Fig. 3 an end, view of my present improvement.
In said drawings, A represents the handle or lever of the dresser, bifurcated atits end, as shown, to give room to the spurred dressing-wheels B and plain disks 0. In the present case the bifurcated end is also widened in a direction at right angles to the axis of the wheels and disks, so as to give room also to a second set of dressing devices 13. The two sets of dressing devices are arranged so they will stand one over the other in the same vertical plane when the tool is in use, so that both sets can be used at the same time upon the same zone or part of the emery-wheel, if desired, the handle being provided with the usual shoulder A -at each edge, adapted to set against the rest upon the grinder-machine and enable the user to hold the tool steadily in its operating position. Both sets are loosely mounted on pivots D, supported in parallel positions in the handle.
As will be seen from the drawings, the two sets of dressers differ from each other mainly in the presence in one set of the plain disks 0 and the absence of such disks in the other set. In this manner one set is adapted to take ofi small asperities left by the other, and each set acts to correct imperfections in the work of the other. 7 The tool is also adapted to work more rapidly than the old style of Hunt-- in gton dresser and without adding to the labor imposed upon the workman, and these results are obtained without adding to the tool anything which prevents the use of either set of dressers singly, so that if the workman so de- Sires he can still use the tool in the old wayington emery-dresser, the handle of which is both bifurcated and widened, and is provided with two sets of dressing devices supported upon parallel pivots, and with a shoulder A under each set of the dressing devices, substantially as set forth.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a Huntington emery-dresser, the handle of which is both bifurcated and widened, and is provided with two sets of dressing devices supported upon parallel removable pivots, and with a pivot-keeper E acting upon both-pivots, substantially as specified.
