Description

(No Model.)
P. TOMMARGHI.
APPARATUS EOE SETTING SAW TEETH.
No. 600,325. Patented Mar. 8,1898.
/ ZOQW A lo STATES ATENT FFICE.
APPARATUS FOR SETTING SAW-TEETH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,325, dated March 8, 1898. Application filed July 2, 1897- Serial No. 643,214. (No model.)
To etZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAOLO TOMMARCHI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Ameglia, (Genoa,) Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Setting Saw-Teeth, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for setting the teeth of saws; and its object is to provide an apparatus for the purpose that will be simple in construction and efiective in operation.
The invention consists of a frame provided with a rotatable shaft, disks carried by said shaft, having teeth on their inner faces, and a pinion E.
The invention consists, further, of details of construction hereinafter described, and defined in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a broken view, in front elevation, of my improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a broken view, in side elevation, of the same. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are views of details.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, P represents a strong frame carried 011 a suitable stand or foot or adapted to be fixed to a table. In this frame there is mounted a transverse axle I-I, adapted to be moved in a vertical direction in the said frame by means of a screw V, operated by a horizontal lever L or its equivalent. The shaft H carries at one end a crank-handle M or a power-driven pulley, from which it receives a rotary movement. On the other end there are mounted two disks 0, formed with teeth on their inner faces, and a pinion E. These are so mounted on the axle Hthat they rotate with it, but are capable of sliding thereon, so that they can be tightened up to a greater or less degree by means of a tightening-nut S, threaded on the end of the axle H. The teeth a and Z) on the disks 0 are alternately in relief and recessed, as shown by Fig. 4, and inside the same is the pinion E, constructed as shown by Fig. 5. Fig. 3 shows one of the disks 0 with the pinion E in position. The disk shown by Fig. 3 is designed to fit upon the disk shown by Fig. 4:. It is to be understood that the teeth in relief of the one disk will coincide or come opposite to the recessed teeth of the other disk. Under the axle H there is mounted a guide-piece,which is inserted into one or the other of the holes t in the frame, according to the width of the saw. This guide-piece consists of two cylinders or rollers I, which are capable of being pressed together by means of a tighteningscrew 5. The saw is placed in between the said two rollers and is guided thereby.
The mode of using this apparatus is as follows: The shaft H and the guide are arranged in such a manner as to place the back of the saw in the guide, so that the teeth of the saw pass between the two disks 0 in such a manner that the teeth of the saw engage with the teeth a b, &c., of the said disks. When the saw is in position, the crank-handle M is rotated and the teeth of the saw in their advancing movement are forced to the right and to the left in alternate succession. If it is desired to increase the amount of set, it is merely necessary to bring the disks 0 closer together.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. In an apparatus for setting saw-teeth the combination with a supporting-frame of a revoluble shaft, disks mounted thereon having interlapping teeth and a pinion also mounted upon said shaft and located between said disks, substantially as set forth.
2. In an apparatus for setting saw-teeth the combination with a supporting-frame, of an adjustable revoluble shaft, disks adjustably mounted thereon, provided with interlapping teeth, a pinion also mounted upon said shaft and located between said disks and a supportin -guide located below said disks, substantially as set forth.
3. In an apparatus for setting saw-teeth the combination with a slotted frame, of a revoluble shaft adj ustably mounted in said slotted frame, a vertical adjusting-screw connected with said shaft, disks adj ustably mounted on said shaft and provided with interlapping teeth, a pinion mounted on the said revoluble shaft and located between said disks, a stud adapted to be inserted in one of a series of orifices in said frame, and rollerguides adjustably mounted upon said stud, substantially as set forth.
I11 testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PAOLO TOMMAROI-II.
