Description
@nimh tetes @anni @fitta IMPROVED PULLEYS.
SPECIFICATION- TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONOERN: f
Be it known that I, JONATAN S. TIBBETS, of Terre Haute, inthe county of Vigo,and State of Indiana, .have invented a new and useful improvement in Pulley; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an edgeview of my improved pulley and hook.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved means for fastening clothes lines, and for other purposes; and it consists in the cam-hook, when constructed as hereinafter more fully described, in combination with the pulley.
A is the hook, which is attached to a staple, loop, ring, or any other suitable support, by means of the hook, al, formed upon its forward end; B is an ordinary pulley which is pivoted to the rear endof the hook, A, by means/of the bars or straps, C, or in any other convenient manner; D'is the rope or cord which -passes around the pulley B, and which it is desired to hold securely in place. Upon the rear end of the hook A is formed a projection or cam, d2, which, when the rope D is drawn in the direction of the arrow in lig. 2, will clamp the said rope, and will prevent its being drawn in that direction or slackened, but which will allow the said rope D to pass freely in the other direction. The cam, a2, is made in the form shown in iig. 2, and its edge or point is notched, as shown in iig. l, to enable it to take a firmer and surer hold upon the rope D. This construction enables the rope to be quickly and conveniently tightened whenever it may have become slackened, by stretching under the weight of the suspended articles, or from any other cause, and .it also enables the rope to be quickly and easily put up and taken down. This invention is designed to be used especially for holding and fastening clothes lines, but it can be used with equal advantage for many other purposes.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The cam-hook A, when constructed substantially as herein shown and described, in combination with the pulley B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
