IMPROVED MODE OF CONSTRUCTING BUILDINGS.
Speeication forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,730, dated November 13, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW TANNnm of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Construction of Buildin gs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a longitudinal section of this invention. Fig;2 is a plan or top view of t-he same.

This invention relates to a building, the outer frame of which, as well as the internal partitions, are lnade of rough boards, placed one on top ofthe other in such a manner that recesses are formed on both sides et' each wall, which serve to support the plaster, and suitable gutters in these recesses afford an additional hold for the plaster. The boards which compose the walls or partitions are provided with vertical and horizontal air-channels in such a manner that the air is free to circulate through said walls, and the formation of dry-rot in the boards is prevented.
A represents a building,the inside and outside walls of which are made ot' a series of rough boards, B, that are placed one on top oi' the other-in a zigzag pile, the edges of the several boards being made to project over the edges of the boards next below, alternately on one and then on the other side of the wall, as clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings. By these means recesses a are formed in the walls,
capable of supporting the coat of plaster, which is applied in the usual manner. The projecting edges of the boards are also provided with gutters b, which give an additional hold to the plaster.
The boards B are furnished with horizontal channels c, which continue through all the boards in the saine layer or in the same horizontal plane, and said horizontal channels connect with each other by means of vertical channels d, which extend through the walls from top to bottom. By the combination of the channels e and d the air is free to circulate through the walls, keeping the saine dry and,
preventing the formation ot' rot.
A building of this kind can be put up at a comparatively low price and with little labor. It is durable, easily taken down and put up again wherever it should be desirable, and particularly tit for such portions of the country where labor and help are scarce.
What I claim as. new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A building the walls of which are produced by a series of boards placed one on top of the other so as to form a zigzag pile, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. The gutters b in the recesses a., substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. The air-channels c d in the boards B, substantially as and for the purpose set fort-h.
