EDWARD J. COOK, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
INSULATING TROLLEY-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 597,140, dated January 11, 1898.
Application filed m r 2, 1897. Serial No. 660,478. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. Coox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insulating 'lrolley-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for supporting insulating trolley-wire supports; and it consists in the constructions and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a partial side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view in perspective of the clench-cap.
Like parts are represented by similar letters of reference in the several views.
In the drawings, or represents a malleable body having projecting arms a to receive the cross-wires or supports for the overhead construction. The body a is formed at the top with a screw-threaded portion a and a reduced neck a. It is also recessed at a and bored out, as shown, to receive an insulatingbolt I), having a sleeve Z), as well as head b of insulating material, the sleeve being adapted to fit in the central bore of the malleable body and the head in the recessed portion a thereof.
0 is a cap which is internally screw threaded and fitted onto the screw-threaded portion a of the body a. It is preferably slightly reduced in size at the top, and between the cap 0 and the head 72 is placed a flexible washer d, of leather or other suitable soft flexible material. The cap 0 is further provided at its lower edge with a series of malleable projections 0, which extend entirely around the lower edge of the cap.
The cap is adapted to screw onto the screwthreaded portion of of the body, so as to clamp the insulating-bolt firmly between the body and cap through the medium of the flexible Washer 01.
Inasmuch as the parts may vary in thickness or size, the caps will not always screw down to the same predetermined position; but in any position which the cap may assume when the parts are tightened one or more of the flexible projections 0 may be bent inwardly, so as to clamp the neck a and prevent the cap from working ofi or from being turned off from any ordinary or accidental means.
The bolt 1), it will be understood, supports the trolley-ear, to which the trolley-wire is attached in the usual manner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim-- 1. The combination with the body a, perforated and recessed, as described, a screwthreaded projecting portion on said body having the reduced neck, and a cap screwed on said body, an insulating-bolt having an enlarged head fitted into said body and recess, a flexible washer between said bolt and cap adapted to be clamped by said cap, and a series of malleable projections extending entirely around the lower edge of said cap so that one or more of said projections may be bent inwardly to clench said neck in any position of adjustment of said cap, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with the body a, having a projecting portion and reduced neck as described, and a cap fitted onto said body, an insnlatingbolt having an enlarged head fitted to said body and adapted to be engaged by said cap, and a series of malleable projections extending entirely around the lower edge of said cap, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of November, A. D. 1897.
EDWARD J. COOK.
