G. B. HAYCOGK. HYPODERMIC SYRINGE.
No. 596,159. Patented Deo. 28, 1897..
v v wf\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\wf UNITED STATES GEORGE B. I-IAYCOCK,
OF OHIOAGO, ILLINOIS.
HYPODERIVIIC SYRINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 596,159, dated December 28, 1897.
Application filed September 16, 18
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE B. HAYCOOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-Iypodermic Syringes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the lart to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to hypodermic syringes. The object is to produce an absolutely non-infecting syringe-one in which it will be impossible for the fluid to be injected coming in contact with the rubber or leather washer used at the joint of the needle-supporting head and the body of the syrin ge, thus preventing any small particles of the washer from being injected into the system.
With this obj ect in View the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated my invention in an elevation view,
partly in section.
which abuts an annular integral ring 8,formed on the needlesupporting head. When the 97. Serial No. 651,861. (No model.)
needle-supporting head is screwed upon the screw-threaded tenon, the annular ring is forced firmly against theleather packing, thus forming an air-tight joint.
In operation when the liquid is forced will come in contact with the washer, and
eye, will not be injected into the system.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a further explanation. y
Although I have specifically'described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.
I claim- In a hypodermic syringe, the combination with a barrel having a screw-threaded tenon and an annular collar having an -annular recess in its face, of a washer seated in said recess, and a needle-supporting head screwed upon said tenon and provided with an annular integral ring to engage said washer and form an air-tight joint, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE B. IIAYOOOK.
