Description

(No Model.)
C ALLGEIER STARCHING MACHINE.
Patented Nov. 30 1897.
5 lIIII/Tlll W'wmsses'.
IIIII N UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
CARL ALLGEIER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
STARCHING-MACHINEL SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 594,671, dated November 30, 1897.
V Application filed 111115 51397. Serial No. 639,430. (No model.)
To @ZZ wi't'om it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CARL ALLGEIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, 'and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sta'rchingMachines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of hand laundering devices for starching clothes in which corrugated rollers are used, the objects of the invention being to apply the starch more speedily than by the old method, and by the same movement wringing the surplus starch from the clothing by means of the rollers instead of by hand.
My device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan or top view of my device. Fig. 2 is an end view; and Fig. 3 is a trans verse sectional View on line 3 3, Fig. 1, with the cover raised. v
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the construction of my device I journal two corrugated rollers D D' in an approximately square zinc-lined box A, with a lid or cover B open' through the middle, as B', to expose the rollers D D' in the box. The sides c' and c of the lid B and of the box A are recessed and provided with metal slides e and e' to serve as bearings for the shafts d and d' of the corrugated rollers D D'. The roller D'is thus enabled to slide forward and back when in operation. On one side of the box a crank F is fitted to the end of the shaft d. Both ends of the shaft d' are connected to the box by the spiral springs G G, engaging hooks g g, pivotally mounted on the shaft d', the other end of the said spring being connected at h h to the lower front corners of the frame. The spiral springs are for the purpose of hold ing the roller D' in engagement with the opposite roller D.
Two levers t' 2', joined by the handle I, are
forked at their free ends k la to operate on the ends of the shaft d and bent at O O,which portion rests upon the ends of the opposite shaft, which serves as a bearing, enabling the levers by pressure of the hand upon the han- .dle I to rock, thus moving the roller D' back the clothing, the drippings falling back into V the box.
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
In a starching-machine the combination of a zinc-'lined box containing a Stationary and a reciprocating' corrugated roller mounted upon shafts, having their bearings in the sides of the box to permit a sliding and ro' tary movement, a crank on the end of one of the shafts, rocking levers bent to rest upon the ends of one shaft as a bearing, while the forked ends engage with the other shaft, and spiral springs extending from the side of the box to one of the shafts as and for the purpose specified.
CARL ALLGEIER.
