To ctZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WINFRED J. HERBERT, of East Liverpool, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Necktie-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. This invention relates to devices for holding a necktie of the bow order underneath a turndown collar, and the object is to provide a holder that will yield sufliciently to allow the bow to conform to the collar, and yet be sufficiently rigid to retain its shape under ordinary conditions. Itis essentially an improvement over the holders comprising a pasteboard lining for a bow or tie and an elastic button-loop secured to the bow or tie.

I will describe a necktie-holder embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims. 7

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Figure 1 shows the holder as applied to a tie and collar, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the holder detached from the tie.

The holder consists of a single length of wire bent to form the side wings 1 and 2, which are shown as longitudinally curved upward, and at the central portion this wire is turned downward to form a substantially rectangular loop 3. The ends of the wire are turned over the horizontal portion 4 of the loop and are provided with eyes 5. A button-loop 6, consistin g of wire, has its ends extended through the eyes 5 and turned over in substantially ring form. It will be seen, therefore, that the button-loop 6 may swing relatively to the main portion of the holder.

In use the material of the bow or tie will be placed over the wing portions 1 and 2 of the holder and of course will extend across the loop 3. The ends of the wire having the eyes 5 will extend through the material of the tie, so that the button-loop 6 may be turned up against the back of the tie when the tie is in place under a collar, as indicated in Fig. l. The resiliency of the wire will cause the portion of the tie or bow underneath the collar to engage closely against the inner upper edge of play of a tie 5 and, further, that the ends of the wire are loosely engaged over the loops 3, so that the lower stretches of the wings may be sprung upward when attaching the device underneath a collar.

Having thus described my invention, I

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A necktie or bow holder, consisting of a length of wire bent to form upwardly-curved side wings and a central loop, the two free ends of said wire being turned loosely over the loop and provided with eyes, and a buttonloop of metal having swinging connection with said eyes, substantially as specified.

2. A necktie-holder, consisting of a length of wire bent to form upwardly-curved side wings and a central substantially rectangular loop, the two free ends of said wire being turned loosely over the horizontal portions of the loop and provided with eyes, and a button-loop having swinging connection with said eyes, the said button-loop having a central contracted portion to engage over the top and against the sides of the shank of a button, substantially as specified.
