FRANK P. GLAZIER, .OF CHELSEA, MICHIGAN.
VAPOR-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 593,015, dated November 2, 189'?.
Application filed August 26,1896. Serial No. 603,971. V(No modehl To ali whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK P. GLAZIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chelsea, in the county of IVashtenaw and State of Michigan, have iu vented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-B urners,of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates-to oil-burners of the Bumsen-burner type 5 and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as more fully vhereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure lis a vertical central section through my burner. Fig. 2 is a similar section through a double burner. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the base and non-combustible wick detached. Fig. 5 is a plan of the burner shown in Fig. l on a somewhat reduced scale.
A is the base of my burner, provided with the oil-channel B in its upper face. This base I preferably make of cast metal and of annular form.
C is a lateral feed-pipe connecting with the channel B at one point and leading from a suitable source of oil-supply. (Not shown.)
Writhin the channel B is placed the noncoinbustible wiel; D, which is preferably formed of asbestos ber a, inclosed in the perforated metallic casing b of U -shaped cross-section, which restson the bottom of the channel.
Extending upward from the oil-channel is a perforated casing comprising the inner tube E and the outer tube F, said tubes preferably resting on the shouldersc` on the sides of the oil-channel.
The tube E is preferably provided at its upper end with the cap G, havinginiperforate sides and an apertured tcp. l
II is an iinperforate casing surrounding the outer perforated tube F and secured thereto by the spiders I.
.I are cams depending from the casing Il, and K are arms projecting laterally from the base with which said cams are adapted to engage.
In Fig. 2 I show a construction in which the base is provided with the two annular channels B, with an airpassage between and coilnected together by the cross oilchan- Il@ 1.
ings preferably formed as an archway on thev base.
In operation the burner being suitably mounted in the stove or wherever it is desired to be used it is lighted by rst rotating Athe casing I-I,l which, through the cams J bearing von the arms II, raises the tube F sufiiciently to disclose the wick. After the wick is lighted and the tube F lowered again the Haine rises to the top cf the perforated casing, and where the double burner is used it also passes through the passage P to the inner wick, lighting that also. At the sanie time airis drawn in through the passages Q and R in the base and through the space between the tube F and casing I-I, passing through the perforations in the tubes E, F, M, and N and cornnlingling with the vapor of the oil, causing it to burn with a blue flame.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. In an oil-burner, the combination of a base cast with the central opening, an annu lar channel, supply-duct therefor, and laten ally-extending arms K, a non -coinbustible Wick in said channel, a stationary perforated extension 0f the inner wall of said channel, a movable perforated extension of the outer wall of said channel, an inclcsing irnperforate casing secured to the outer-wall extension and having dcwnwardlyextending cams enl gaging said radial arms, substantially as described.
2. An oil-burner comprising the base having concentric oil-channels formed therein and lateral oiloteed connection therewith, a non-combustible wick in each of said chan nels, perforated casings extending above said channels and a name-passage between and connecting the perforated casings substantially as described. Y
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK P. GLAZIER.
.Witnesses z a Y M. B. ODoeHER'rr, E. J. FORTUNE.
