SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,901, dated November 2, 1897.
Application filed February 20, 189 Serial No. 624,321. (No model.)

Be it known that I, HENRY D. BLUBAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Knox and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antirattling Thill-Ooup lings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the others skilled invention, such as will enable in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in thilLcouplings, and has more particular relation to antirattling thill-couplings.
This invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed. I

1 in the drawings represents the axle-clip; 2, the thill-iron; 3, the pivoted lever, and 4 the pivoted loop. The axle-clip 1 is of any desired construction and is adapted to be applied about the axle and is provided witha forwardly and upwardly projecting lug 5, in which the bolt of the thill-iron 2 is adapted to rest. The operating-lever 3 is pivotally connected to said projection 5 upon each side of the same. The loop 4, which is adapted to be passed over the projection 5, has its opposite ends connected to the lever 3. This loop is loosely passed through the top of the two loop-guiding bars 7, the lower ends of which are secured in a pressure-block 8,adapted to rest upon the top of the coupling 2. Coil-springs 9 surround the loops 7 and bear with their opposite ends against the blocks 8 and the loop 4. The said block 8 is thus held down under a yielding pressure. When the lever 3 is in its rear elevated position, the pivotal point of connection between the loop 4 and said lever is to the rear of the pivotpoint of said lever on the projection 5, and thus the tendency of said loop is to hold said lever in its position with a spring-pressure. It will be observed from the foregoing description that by the employment of my invention the shafts may be instantly detached from the axle-clip when so desired or can be applied in position, and when so applied are positively locked in position against any ac- .cidental displacement, as the natural tend- 8, so that the same may be withency of the loop 4, which is pressing the block 8 upon the thill-bolt, is to draw said lever tightly in position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with an axle-clip having forwardly and upwardly extending projections adapted to receive the thill-bolt, of a lever pivoted on said projection, a loop pivotally mounted on said lever, an antirattlingblock, and springs connecting said loop and block, whereby the latter is held down under spring tension, substantially as described.
2. The combination with an'aXle-clip having a forwardly and upwardly extending projection adapted to receive the thill-bolt, of a lever pivoted on said projection, a loop-pivotally mounted on said lever, and an antirattling-block connected to said loop and comprising a block proper, guide-loops mounted thereon and springs surrounding said loops and bearing against the block and the pivoted loop respectively, substantially as described.
