J. W. TAYLOR.
WRENCH.
JW Z /0/2.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. TAYLOR, OF TROUT, WEST VIRGINIA.
WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,068, dated October 19, 1897.
Application iiled March 10 1 8 9 7.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN W. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trout, in the county of Greenbrier and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrenches; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to a wrench, and the object is to provide a device of this character which shall be simple of`construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production, and which may be quickly adjusted to nuts of different sizes.
With this object in View, the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view of my improved wrench, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line x.
In the drawings, l denotes the handle-bar, provided with a handle 2, and at the other end with a fixed jaw 3, while one of its sides, preferably its top, is provided with a longitudinal row of teeth 4.
5 denotes a sliding jaw having a hollow extension 6, the rear end of which is provided with a catch-head 7, formed on its inner face with a catch-recess 8.
.9 denotes a bar, the forward end of which is pivoted between two parallel ears of the sliding jaw, and the under side of which is provided with teeth corresponding to those formed on the handle-bar. The forward end Serial No. 626,824. (No model.)
of the pivoted bar is provided with a boltsocket 10, withinV which is seated a coiled spring 11, bearing against a bolt 12, which is adapted to engage the latch-recess, and which is provided with two side extensions 13, preferably roughened, and by means of which the bolt may be grasped by the ngers and withdrawn from its recess.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- A wrench consisting of a handle-bar provided at one end with a handle and at its other end with a fixed jaw having one of its sid es provided with teeth,a sliding jaw mount ed on said handle-bar provided with a hollow extension to embrace the same, and at one end with a latch-head provided with a latchrecess, a bar pivoted between lugs integral with said sliding` j aw and provided with teeth `to engage the teeth of the handle-bar and JOHN W. TAYLOR.
